Ok, i have featured an American in the first of my GP profiles (Wayne Rainey), and a Brit, in the first of my SBK profiles (Carl Fogarty), so, seeing as we have a lot of active Aussie members in the forum, i thought, let's feature Mick Doohan....My hero, of hero's...a 2 stroke warrior, able to tame the bucking bronco's of the 2 stroke era, argueably, better than anyone! 5 succesive World Championships, most ever wins, and points in a season...and all this after he nearly lost a leg in a horrific racing accident.

Anyway, i will let the stories, interview's, tributes, video's, and pictures do all the talking from here!

Yep, Mick sure is a legend.

I still think of his Assen crash everytime there is a race there.

The guy has so many ground down fingers, titanium screws, plates - he made Dr Costa the millionaire he is today

Amazing guy and very humble when you meet him. Not arrogant at all - and yet he probably has the right to be.

I think it was 90 at PI - his race with Gardner and Rainey - he got second but what a race. His epic battles with Criville over the years - always entertaining.

When Mike met him at the island one year, I think it made his whole trip. He had no-one around him and Mike managed a chat with his all-time hero :D

I have met lots of famous people through work, but i reckon Mick is one that i might be lost for words around! my hero worship of this bloke is complete...

And yes, i was at Phillip Island, way back when the "golden era" of the late 80's, early 90's, was playing itself out, and will never forget the race you are talking about...i think it was 89, or 90, without looking bak through results! Was it the same year, that Gardner fell off, got back on, and won?

We have been so lucky to see a bloke like this race! 2 of the great talent's of the modern era, one after the other, Doohan, and now Rossi! we are blessed!

Mighty Mick

Loved watching Rainey & Doohan race head to head from the off on cold tyres :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

But for both their accidents, how long would both men have dominated & how many poles/wins/titles would they have taken off each other?

Would Vali have come to prominence as soon?

Ooops sorry, mean to be celebrating Mick.

Sorry KaZ, if Rainey & Doohan were still riding at their peaks when Rossi came along to the premier class, then history would be very much different...same way it would be for Mick Doohan, if Rainey had not fallen off!

Would of been great to watch though!
