Hey guys and gals, my Ninja riding friend found this on his forum and we are seriously considering going along lending our support and enjoying the afternoon as much as we can.
I thought It wise to bring it to the forum's attention.

MEGA DEMO PROTEST: Tuesday, 31st March 2009, meet between 5pm-6.15pm, Trafalgar Square / Whitehall / Parliament Square / Westminster City Hall for 7pm | No To Bike Parking Tax

We will probably head to the Ace café in London, as I have never been there and make our way to the meeting place as described in the events plan.

I hope this isn't too presumptuous of me to post!!!

P.S. we'll be travelling from Oxford, if anyone wanted to join us??

cheers, D :uk:

Just a few suggestions (I've been on quite a few London demos, even organised a few myself):
- if the turnout's good, there's not a lot of parking space out front of the Ace Cafe, so bikes get parked in all directions. Keep your wits about you as you maneouver around there
- the Ace is a great venue, full of history that's well worth looking into Welcome to the Ace Cafe London Home Page and it serves a good cup of tea. But, again, if a lot of people are there, don't expect you'll get served or into the loos that quickly
- on the demo, watch your right hand side: that's where your police escort bikes will come hammering along to take up their next positions

All the best and have a good ride! Can't come myself, unfortunately, working...:(

might fancy going there myself seeing I work near Convent Garden at the moment. This parking charging is a farce I tell, I am looking for a map to see which area falls under which council in Central London. Not all bike parking is paid for. Where I work ther are a couple of bike spots

On my map there A is paid parking, the rest are free but it seems they fall under Camden council and the paid for is under Westminister Council.

Watch out for the men in blue, they get a bit handsy when it comes to protests, especially with women and children! :)

Apparently the guys at Bikesafe have helped with organizing parking in the area, route planning and will act as outriders on the day.

Where I live it's a £40 ticket and £80 for a parking permit. I'll be in Trafalgar Square as soon as possible after work.
