Stole this idea from a loval bike forum. :spank:
Do you have motorcycle with more horsepower than your first car?

So, my answer's no....

My first car, a 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 389 4-barrel carb producing 325 hp with a stick shift auto. Bought when I was in high school from a friend of my dad's in 1970 for $1000 with 5,000 miles on it. Sold it after 6 months because I couldn't afford the gas at .33 cents a gallon on a part time salary of $1.65 hr. I kick myself for ever selling that car.

Although my second car was the first Honda auto made, at Honda N600 sedan with a 2 cylinder, 36 hp, 600cc four stroke engine with a non-syncromesh 4 speed trans. Weighed about 1300 pounds and was smaller than a mini cooper. Drove the crap out of that thing until I blew the head on it on the hills of S.F.

You old hoons might remember the good 'ol days when cars had less hp than today's modern bikes.

Can't find the HP for my first car. 1978 Pontiac Grand Lemans (V6). It barely moved, but it may have been rated at more than 150 (which is what FZ1 puts out at the crank). :don'tknow:

I can tell you this: my current bike has more HP than my current car: 2003 Mazda Protege5.. approximately 130hp at the crank. Slooooow

My answer would be no also, my first car was a 1969 Mercury Cougar with a 351W, 2-barrel carb and 250 hp. Paid $1200, but I think gas was about $.60 per gallon, although making minimum wage in 1975 it seemed like a lot of money. But I kept it for a few years and then sold it to my younger sister and together we put almost 160,000 miles on it and rear air shocks, wide mags in rear, narrower in the front, tinted windows, duel exhaust, etc., but it was the 70's. :don'tknow:

It's funny when you're in high school it didn't take much hp to get your heart pumping when you had a car! :D

I guess my first car had a little more HP than my Tiger. Was a 1954 Ford with the flat head 6 rated at 115 HP.
Did have a Subaru 360 Pick up with a 360cc twin two stroke engine that probably made less than 40 HP, was a kick to drive with and we could sneak the kids into Mile Square Park in Orange County cause it would fit between the poles designed to keep cars out:spank:

Nope, my first cage was a '67 Impala SS396 with a few extra "goodies" making around 350HP.

I am in love. I drove a worked 74 Camaro while me and a pal built the 69 Chevelle Ss396. We put $2k (1975 dollars ) into the motor. Body was a rat but it ran like a rocket. My pal's dad was a po so he always carried what he called 'badge americard". Saved our bacon more than once!

I'll have to find out the HP of the 1962 Hillman Minx that was my first car. I ended up finding rust through the chassis so trashed it before I ever got my licence. But the first car I had on the road was a 1963/4 EJ Holden Panel Van with 75 brake Horse power(56Kw)

that honda in the first post in this thread was called a Honda Scamp here in Australia and its what I learned to drive in, follwed by the Honda Z and then a civic.
My Dad was owner of the advertising Agency that did all Honda's ads here in OZ, (M/bikes cars and power products)

Man what's with all the coolest rare car owners popping up in here, I guess I semi qualify on the cool and rare part but not the hp part... (would have if Yamaha didn't gimp our HP :p )

115hp/150tq in a 1986 Jeep Comanche with POS 2.8L GM V6 (2bbl carb). I loved that truck to death, even though it was a snail, it was a tough snail lol. Also taught me to hate carburetors more than life itself

I had that same truck in the late '80s. Best truck I ever had until I crashed it in a roll over in 1998.,.

What a fun thread!

I'm embarrassed to show my first car, the Mighty 1970 Ford Maverick:

peeps_fordmaverick-7.jpg

No idea what hp it had (it was probably measured in mh (milli-hamsters) but I do remember it swung 170 cu inches.
I probably should bring this up with my therapist.
