Hello everyone!! :)

I've decided to bite the bullet and go for a full HID kit for my bike.

I'm going to do both low and high bulbs.

I need information, the posts on the site so far dont tell much about this mod. Do you have to change fuses on the bike to withstand the new bulbs?

Do you experience trouble when firing up the bike? Do the new bulbs draw more current initially and how does this effect the turning over of the engine, if any?

Where have you fitted the ballasts and how have you tied everything in place?

Thats all I have for now! :) I'm planning on buying 55W H7 and H4 Hids from these guys: HIDS4U Ltd - UK's Number 1 HID Conversion Kit Specialists because i'll get a great discount on them (all in it'll be 140 sterling)

I haven't done this, but I can answer a basic question

For the fuse issue, most likely you're going to have to wire the power directly from the battery and operate via relays.

Thanks for the info, I think you mean I will require an inline fuse to the + of the battery. The HID kits come with a built in relay (if you can call it that).

Anyone else have answers for the other points?

I'm going to get the 6000K variety. I've seen a picture of the 35w versus the 50w and the difference is massive. I'm sure 55w is a whole lot better. BUT...i'm stuck between two companies...HIDS4U.co.uk and HID50.co.uk..the HID50 ballasts seem to be alot thinner...and i've spoken to the owner of that company before and he comes across as being VERY reliable...

Decisions!!!

50w versus 35w:

you will not need to change fuses as they will draw the same power as the original bulbs. Also it will not effect the starting of the bike since the lights do not turn on until after the bike is done starting. Also the larger startup power is taken care of by the ballast.

Any consideration for the bulb housing/assembly? I've heard and read about how the HID light scatters in a halogen bulb reflector. Sometimes blinding oncoming traffic, other times making it too difficult to see in a fog. Anyway, I know some here have retrofitted their light assemblies to properly project the HID light beams. I love the white bright light the HIDs emit, post your pics after the install.

the light is no more or less scattered than the hallogen bulbs, just brighter.

I'm really stuck between two companies to buy from.....

HID50.co.uk

HIDS4U.co.uk

The HID50 offer 50W ballasts that are 90mm x 65mm x 13mm while the HIDS4U offer 55W ballasts that are 87mm x 75mm x 33mm...

The HID50 kit comes to 218 pound if I want both H7 and H4 in 50W or 188 if H4 is 35W.

The HID4U kit comes to 140 pound (because I have a promotional code I got a reduction.) and this is for both H7 and H4 in 55W.

The HID50 ballast is smaller then the HIDS4U ballast...is this such a big deal?

I just cant make up my mind if the extra money for the smaller ballasts is worth it since the things are going to be hidden away anyway! (I want to put them into the nose cone of the bike if I can or under the seat/tank.

Ok people!! The HID kit came in today from HIDS4U!!!

The box itself screams quality (magnet catch on box!!)

The kit is great, the ballasts are bigger then I would have expected but i'm sure even at that i'll find a place to fit them. The following are the images of the kit if it interests you.

When I do this mod...sometime this week...when I find the extra time around my PhD i'll get the camera phone out to document the progress!!

I CANT WAIT!!

O and a tip for all you who buy from HIDS4U...when you go to pay put STRATHY into the coupon code section and you'll receive 45 pound off the order! :)

I got all this kit (55W) a H7 bulb and a HI/LOW H4 bulb for 140 pound delivered. They are the best UK dealer so you can certainly trust their gear! :)

sounds like you got a good deal on the kit, I can't wait for the writeup, I still want to do the HI/Low high beam, but bought some other toys instead for now :)

Nice purchase. This was one of the best mods I did on my bike, although the 35W HIDs are more than bright enough, trust me. I chose to mount my ballasts inside the fairing using some industrial strength double sided tape and heavy duty velcro. The tape was used to create a flattened area for the ballast to mount to properly. This worked really well and I never had a problem with them coming loose.

As was said before, to get proper use out of these, I highly recommend doing a projector retrofit. If you are interested, I did a write up a while back on how to do this and there are a few others around here who have done it as well. The difference between the HID in the reflectors versus the projectors was night and day (literally). As much improvement as you'll get going from halogen to HID in the reflectors, the projectors are 10x the improvement.

Thanks RSW,

I've read about your retrofit alright over on the sportsbikes.net webpage. It is something i'd love to do but probably will never attempt for fear of damaging the lights!

Thanks for the tip regarding the ballast fixture! I'm thinking of putting them into the nose cone (if you can call it that!!!), if there is enough room...i shoved my hand in there today and it seems spacious!! :)

The kit really doesn't come with much wiring between the bulbs and ballast so i cant fit the ballasts under the seat as I had originally wanted to.

I did not know that they make 55W Hid's. I mean 35W is bright enough, I can imagine 55. Yeah man post some pics once installed. We are all curious...

Awesome, I'm glad you already found that DIY guide. You'll thank yourself for doing that mod, trust me. I too feared ruining my headlight, so I actually bought a good quality used one from a member going naked. That way I can work on the mod while still riding the bike with the first headlight still in it. Only after I finished the projectors did they get installed on the bike itself. Once again, I highly recommend you consider doing this mod, you'll absolutely love it. If you do it right, it looks like it is meant to be that way, only the people who really know the bike will know what you've done and that makes it all the better in my opinion.

What you are calling the "nose" is where I mounted mine as well, I just called it the fairing since that is what we call it here in the states. I too originally wanted to mount mine under the seat and had extended the wiring to get it to reach, but the ballasts are larger than you think and the under-seat room is smaller than you think. You can't keep the tool kit there and fit two ballasts, just not enough space. That is why I mounted mine in the "nose" as mentioned in my last post.
