    It's been a while....

Hi all, I haven't been on here in a while, but I wanted to drop by with an update. I traded my '07 FZ6 in last summer on a new BMW R1200RT. While I love the RT for touring (especially loaded down), I really miss my FZ6. The scream and rocket-like power it made at 10K is unforgettable. It...

Said goodbye to my FZ6 today

I said goodbye to my FZ6 today. It's been an AMAZING bike and works well for pretty much everything. I take a lot of long rides and I've been saving my pennies, so I decided to get something more suited to that task. I really wanted to keep the FZ6, but my wife had other ideas (and I'm out of...

    Back with a ride report....

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I posted on here. I will use this thread to report on my recent adventures with my FZ6 in an endurance rally. Some of you know that I've done a few Iron Butt rides on my FZ6 and that I regularly ride 500-1000 mile days on it. Over the winter, I added a...

My FZ6 in a rally - follow the prep here

As some of you know, I've been into the long-distance riding thing since I bought my FZ6. I've ridden my '07 on a couple of Iron Butt rides (both ride reports are on here somewhere) and I'm the only person to have done two different IBA rides on our bike (which only makes me stupid )...

    Weights....

Ok, here's a topic for ya. How much weight do you have on your rear wheel to balance the tire? I've got 50 (g?) on the back and I'm wondering if this is within the normal range. My bike has about 14.5K miles on it and the current tires were put on at about 8K.

    The 2009 Iron Butt Rally!

The 2009 Iron Butt Rally is about to begin. Get more info and daily reports here: Iron Butt Rally - 2009 Someday I'd love to be the first to compete on an FZ6. These guys are absolutely crazy and truly hard-core. I've been following the story of a guy who's riding a 1975 Suzuki...

    Swingarm bearings? (another thread)

My '07 FZ6 has about 13000 miles on it. I bought it new a year ago. Lately, I've been feeling what I can only describe as 'click' from the rear-end when I hit bumps/rough pavement (I don't hear it so much as feel it). Could this be the swingarm bearings? The shock seems to be working ok. I...

Things I learned on my last ride....

I just got back from a 3000 mile trip to James Bay, Canada (a ride report will follow at some point), but I wanted to get this message out there NOW. Check your radiator fan REGULARLY! Several folks have reported having rocks jam the fan, which results in burning out the fan and eventual...

    James Bay adventure

Hi all, I'm leaving Tuesday morning on a 3000-mile adventure ride up to James Bay, Quebec (it's very isolated place about as far north as you can get in eastern North America). I'm planning to camp the whole way up and back. I've got 2 one-gallon gas cans along because it's 240 miles between...

    possible "new" bike

Thoughts on this bike? 1970 Honda CL350 Scrambler Nice Condition Ok, so it's not an FZ6, but what do you think? My plan would be to ride it as a second fun 'around town' bike and work on it as needed (after all, the FZ6 is so low maintenance I rarely have to do anything to it!) I'm going...

These came in the mail yesterday!

From the Iron Butt Association......These are for a ride I did with Steve 'Bigdog' in May of this year (he rode a Triumph Tiger). BB1500 (1500 miles in under 36 hours). This is my second Iron Butt ride on an FZ6 (last one was a SS1000 in August 2008 - also on my FZ6). This one is for the...

    Another long ride....

On the road again.....latest run was 730 miles yesterday from mid-Michigan to Kansas City. Not an Iron Butt this time - just needed to get to Kansas City for work. I really need to invest in a new seat!! Here's a link showing the route..... SPOT Trip Manager - Trip Viewer There's...

    FZ6 as a world tourer?

Hi folks, My 'dream ride' is to ride down to South America. I spend quite a bit of time down there for work, but it would be absolutely amazing to ride down there. Most folks who've done it ride a KLR, V-Strom, DRZ, BMW F650/GS, or KTM. So how would the FZ6 stack up? There are folks...

    Need to know bolt size!

Hi all, I'm doing some maintenance on the bike and just noticed the two bolts that hold down the front of my gas tank to the frame are missing! I guess I must have forgotten to tighten them down on my recent 1500 mile ride. I'm certain they were on there when I left. Anyway, could...

    An Iron Butt story

Last year I bought my FZ6 (a 'leftover' '07 new). After breaking it in for a few weeks, I did my first Iron Butt ride in August '08 (SS1000 - 1000 miles in under 24h). It was an amazing experience and I learned a lot about the bike and myself. I posted a short ride report on here (a copy of it...

    FREE on-line adventure movies!

Got a couple of hours to kill? Check these out! http://www.arcticclutch.com/ If you haven't watched this.....you should. Be warned it's a full length movie! Productivity WILL be impaired! It's similar in many ways to Long Way 'Round - but better (more 'real' anyway)...

    James Bay adventure anyone?

As some of you know, I've been thinking about a run around the Great Lakes in late-May (maybe as an Iron Butt run, maybe not). I ran into a couple of LD riders yesterday who suggested something totally different. It's a ride I'd thought about it earlier, but had more or less let it go for some...
