Wow! I totally missed that. I don't remember hitting the brakes, but on gravel, even if I just kissed the brakes, it might have been enough to break traction.
D'oh! Last weekend I went for a ride with a local group to the new Ridge Motorsports Raceway, in Shelton, WA. As we approached the newly paved access road, I turned left at about 8-10 mph. Just as I saw fine, black gravel on the road, I went down fast and hard. I didn't have time to think as I...
Frankly, that group sounds more like a gang than a proper motorcycle group. All the groups that I ride with encourage safety gear but leave it up to the individual.
I saw a distinct reduction in the number of people turning left in front of me once I started wearing a hi-viz vest. No close calls before, but now I see people wait for me to pass before taking their turn, where before they would just go. They clearly see me coming now and wait. Proof enough...

Yup, about a year ago I experienced that same thing. The smell of burning oil when I got into the garage and an accumulation of black gunk by the front sprocket. Since I cleaned it, it has not come back but I do keep an eye on it. FWIW, I've always used Maxima chain wax.
I used to ride for years with polarized sunglasses and enjoyed the lack of glare. But the rainbow effect was pretty strong and I found it distracting. Once I moved to WA state, it was a no go. The combination of the rainbow effect and the type of tar they used to repair potholes made it look...
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope they nail the driver for falling asleep at the wheel. His driving an unnecessarily huge vehicle just made things worse.
I recently bought an Alpinestars Bionic back protector, rated CE level 2. It is great and I find it comfortable as it flexes when I lean forward and I do not find that it restricts my movement. I even noted that I could feel air flow through it when i opened up all my vents on my jacket this...
