What do you think is the greatest song of all time; and why?

Right here. This makes me remember so many smells, sights, sounds, so many cool things have happened while this song played. Sometimes it will come on the radio while I am driving and it will make me cry. Not sad just remembering things.

It's hard for me to narrow it down to best "song", let me pontificate:

1. Best Melody: "Mull of Kintyre", Paul McCartney
2. Best Lyrics: "Kiss from a Rose", Seal ( or perhaps "Free Man in Paris", Joni Mitchell)
3. Best chord progression: "Money for Nothing", Dire Straits (or perhaps "Colour My World", Chicago)
4. Best Imagery: "Imagine", John Lennon (or perhaps "Comfortably Numb", Pink Floyd)
5. Best Recording: "Aja", Steely Dan
6. Or then again, probably "Bridge over Troubled Water", Simon & Garfunkle

Tomorrow I'll add to this list extensively. Ain't Christmas break great? :D

Stairway is good but my favorite Zeppelin tune is "fool in the rain".

I really like Bob's "subteranian homesick blues" (SP?)

Hows the one Sublime song go..."early in the morning, rise up to the street, light me up a cigg...."

there are so many good song out there....definitely cannot name the best of all time.

Everyone knows who Led Zepplin is and everyone knows who the Beatles are. They have been gone for 30 years. Do you think anyone will know who Korn is in 30 years time? Lets face it, music peaked in the '70s and has been down hill ever since. The '80s were decent. but when grunge started in the '90s I could here the toilet flush. Apparently melody and harmony are foreign concepts to these modern rock bands. Don't get me started on Rap. Most who Rap do so because they can't sing.

Not to agrue but your post could have been .
"Since Sinatra stopped singing and all this electric crap music has begun to really sprial downhill"

I am 50 and I love 70's stuff....
I also like some 80's 90's and current stuff too... even some Rap and Country(at times)

music is a reflection of the times and the times they are a changing.... so I choose to find the good stuff in every decade....

I like good, clear , loud music

I get your point... but I have yet to see a Bee Gee's song listed and they were the 70's every decade had music that sucked

so as the little icon says ROCK ON:rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon:

um, yes.....I think everybody will know who Korn is in 30 years. If I remember correctly, the thread was, "what do YOU think is the greatest song of all time." I posted the songs that I think are the greatest songs of all time. I don't really care for Led Zeppelin, I do like The Beatles. I agree with your comment about rap, but why pick on my opinion.......what's your motivation? I was born in 1981, so naturally, when I started listening to music, it was late 80's, early 90's. Everybody grows up with a different era of music and that was mine.

OK I'll bite. This was written in early 1970s.
Looks like it still applies. Of course this is just MY opinion.
Flame away if you like.:banghead:
