What Chain lubricant to use and...

avoid drying out and accumulation of dried out grease and dirt? I just cleaned my chain and it was a big job to clean out dried out grease with a lot of sand and dirt stuck with it. Chain will inevitably get hot when running and with ambient temperature even more so what lubricant does not dry out too much and create gummy residue on the chain and the bike?

My first can of lube was Liquid Wrench. It was awful. Scared the bejeezus out of me at a stoplight once. I was still new to the bike and I look down and there was smoke coming from the front sprocket area. Thought the damn thing was on fire. Turned out the chain lube had slung off the chain and was burning off of whatever it was slinging on to. So don't use that stuff. Clean the chain with WD-40 with the bike on the center stand, in neutral, and engine OFF. Then I have found DuPont Teflon Dry Lube and Silkolene Pro Chain Lube to be very good.
