SoCal Veterans Day Ride Nov 11?

I wish I was with you guys and Lady's. I'll catch you next round. So... Sheldon's going into X-rays as I type. We're expecting a break on the collar bone and or in the shoulder region. He's in a lot of pain to be expected. But he will be o. K. And that's the good news.
Thank you all for doing what you do, and I hope you showed the new guys just how much fun we usually have.

There has to be a fair amount of soreness and it maybe a little while before he will be able to ride again, but kudos to his wife for allowing him to continue to contemplate riding - it can be the best medicine.
I think a bunch of us were following your VD ride, because your weather, roads and opportunity in SoCal can be very enviable especially when we received 2" of wet snow today. (Seriously, do you guys and gals work? :D) We would like to know the details of the incident however, because it can be relevant and it is all good information. ;)

Overall, it turned out to be a beautiful ride today. Yes, nearly all of us work, but today was a holiday! We had four active duty military on the ride, and it was an honor to ride with them (Eng, KenKen, & 2 friends who I hope will join our forum).

Ten minutes into the ride, "S" went down. Looks like a combination of target fixation and locking up both brakes for a slide into the guardrail. It was a downhill left turn marked as 20mph I think. It was in a rural residential area and we were not going fast. I was two bikes ahead and my thought in the turn was "Oh, look at that pretty mountain, ohhhh turn tightens a bit, ride first look later!"

I'm so lucky to ride with such wonderful guys and everyone remained calm. Thanks Sandctrev for staying with your buddy and keeping us posted with news throughout the day.

I didn't take many pictures, so I'll leave that to those who did. I just wanted to give an update on the first few minutes so that the rest of the thread can show what a wonderful day it was to be on a bike with the SoCal Hoons!

Okay, turns out I got a couple good shots…

Thank goodness Kenny came so we had a beautiful FZ6 on our ride! I wanted to get a red-white-blue bike pic (the rest of the bikes were black), but the logistics were just not going to work. We had some fun. We always do.

Made it home safe and sound, did 400 miles today and other than Sheldons mishap it was a great ride and look forward to riding with everyone again. Glad Sheldon is doing OK and looking for new bikes.
And I'm enjoying some chocolate chip cookies with some milk, thanks Jen:D
Pictures to follow.

Made it home through some nasty traffic, just under 400 miles for the day for Pam and I.

Thanks to Jennifer for pushing this ride, it would not have happened without her suggestion. We traveled some great roads today (new to me), especially Sunrise Highway. Had lunch at a casino in the middle of desert and sand, it was just fantastic! Finished up watching sunset while riding along CA79.

This is a great group of friends/riders. I am lucky to know you all.

So, when is the next ride??

The sunset was spectacular tonight. Goop,Verharen, ENG, Colby and I were on a twisty little road called Old Julian Highway. Giving the bike a little whip toward home, heading into that sunset was like someone wrote a Hollywood script and we got to play in it! Only it was real and made me thankful for such great friends and fun riding. You all rock and so does this forum and it's members!

Thank you Jennifer for getting this happening!
Thank you Bryan for taking point and getting us safely through all these back roads!

Thanks to John and Jerry for long hauling it to visit and ride with us. Nice to meet you Pam! :)

Also great job to everyone that rode safely with excellent skills to the end of this ride today!

Although we had one mishap today it should be noted that we as a team emphasized the need for prudence and safety. This was done one on one and during a pre-ride meeting. I hope the rider that had an off today gets better, gets a new ride and applies his new experience in future rides with us. :)
I hope this doesn't come out as a, "Told you so" We really care about you're safety, health and happiness!

Clockwise from left is Pam (so glad to have another lady on the ride!) then John. Bryan is hiding behind his glass. Chris (Eng) can take credit for being the original reason for the ride and represented our US Marines. You all know Jerry by now. Me. Then Colby, Vance, and Kenny (KenKen) representing our US Navy.

As for the other character, at our first scheduled stop someone asked "Where's Jerry?" and the answer came from the other side of the road "I'm over here scratching my @ss!" A couple of smart @sses if you ask me. :roll eyes:

Edit: I've already ordered replacement gloves. Next time I will bring fewer cookies so I have room for the extra set of gloves I usually have on long rides! But I have to say, that bandana worked as a bug guard. Honestly, I felt like I was riding while naked without a glove!
