First post here, I figured I'd share my (completely undereducated) first steps towards going naked.
First of all, thanks to all the members here, this place is an incredible resource for someone just getting into wrenching, and full of very helpful people.
So I laid the bike down a couple seasons ago, cracking the front fairing and bending the stock handlebars. I ordered in some Renthal Street Mediums, installed them, LOVED it, and now I have modding fever, all the bits I need to replace the front fairing, and a lot less money.
Before shopping around, I saved some stuff from Bike Exif (read: motorcycle porn), brought the bike into photoshop, and laid out a few different stages of what I want the bike to look like if time and money allow – right now I'm working on phase 1, the new headlight:

I took parts from the new XSR700, FZ09, R6 etc. It's all just to get a feel for the new lines I'd like, we'll see what happens when (or if) I actually cross those bridges. I also borrowed heavily from Bunker Customs recent XSR700 build.
With all that figured out, here's what I ordered:
• Bikemaster 5 3/4"dia. round headlight w CCFL halo
• Those cheap headlight brackets everyone has (with plans to fab my own later)
• El Cheapo mini signals from amazon x 4
• Biltwell Thruster grips
• Magazi round handlebar-mount mirrors + mounts
looking good already!
Now I just needed to figure out how to get all this stuff on the bike and working!
To be continued...
