Powder coating Headers?

Hello,

With ugly chrome(?) pipes, I was wondering how powder coating the headers has worked for some of the veterans of the forum. And....does anyone know of any one in the Los Angeles area that does that kind of work?

I've had P.C. done by these guys (great peeps): Olympic Powder Coating Orange County

I did not do the headers though, but I'd recommend you get them ceramic coated. Ceramic Coating - Types, Tech, Applications - Custom Classic Trucks

Someone else did their headers in black ceramic I think recently around here... don't remember who though.

I mention this in the above thread: the coating is really soft before it's heat-cycled, so you've got to be careful not to scratch it during re-installation.

I'm pretty sure that powder coating won't stand up to the heat. I don't recommend it. Like the other guys have said, get them ceramic coated instead.

Make sure you do some research first. someone on here had his Jet-coated and said it was starting to fade....and it was expensive. Try and see about a warranty. Also remeber you can get header wrap in black that is much cheaper and replaceable!

Yep....it sounds like ceramic coating is the way to go. I went to a shop in Huntington Beach this morning called Specialized Coating. The guy took a look at my bike and said it would be $140 and it would take about a week. The finish is a satin black.
