Another bug pic. Praying mantis sitting on the inside of my trashcan. Had to use flash and didn't realize little bugger's head would be this reflective.

Went through a rifle certification course for work this week. Had to use my own but had a good time. Now I can carry an AR-15 at work (along with a Mossberg 590A1 shotgun and my Glock 22 sidearm). Learned a lot about the AR and its capabilities. After cleaning it and loading the mags with the 62 grain soft point Speer duty ammo I decided to take a picture.

Same just not zoomed in as much.

My bike was bumped in a parking lot on June 10 of this year, knocking it over and causing some damage. They gave me their insurance info and we went from there. 10 weeks later I finally got my bike back. It's a K1200GT that I was able to get K1300GT side panels on and repainted to Vermillion Red Metallic (BMW color) from the leisure suit color of Crystal Grey Metallic which I never liked. Added a couple of stripes on the bottom of the panel to add some horsepower (still need to get a giant red 'R' to finish that off). Having gotten it back to the house August 22nd in the late afternoon was only able to ride about 50 miles. I'm off Saturday so planning on putting on a lot more. 2 1/2 months of not riding was killing me.

This is what it looked like before, what a difference a color makes:

Just be careful on that sexier red Dave....I hear that LEO's spot red bikes quicker....

OH NO, looks like you're already busted!

That extra venting is also cool!

That's why I opted to pay more for the 1300 side panels instead of fixing the one that was damaged. Helps break up those billboards. I'll get the inserts painted dark grey later, the painter did them same color... because he didn't ask first. Since I wanted to ride so badly I told him I'd bring it in some other time so they can reshoot them.

That popo car was just there, don't know where it came from.

Cliff, I'll send you more pics later. After I took this I removed the stainless steel howitzer stock can and put an Akrapovic carbon fiber slip on in it's place. Sounds better too.

One last tidbit: the painter does custom paint for bikes once in a while (mostly does cars). He told me he's had a guy request paint imported from Italy from Ducati... he said the paint code for Ducati red is the exact same code for Chrysler red. Also said the Italian paint used on Ducati's is inferior paint, there's better quality stuff you can get elsewhere. Kinda funny, thought I'd throw that in.

Not the greatest quality as they are screen grabs from video, but I thought I'd show some of the sights on my commute to/from work across London :)

A Pagani rolling casually through town?! NICE! Never seen one of those in person.

It's one of the rarer cars ive seen but in London you'll pretty much see every make and model of most of the top sports cars, some are just parked up on the side of the road.

I watch the buffoons on the show Top Gear, they sometimes stroll through London doing their crazy antics in some high priced motorcar.

On Wednesday a friend and I went from Elgin, TX, to Corpus Christi, TX, to see the oldest remaining aircraft carrier in the world: USS Lexington. It was a great ride in the morning, temps were in the 70's and 80's. By the time we reached Corpus it was in the low 90's. When we departed, around 3:30pm, it was in the low 90's but climbed to about 97 the further from the coast we got. And it was humid.

All in all it was 410 miles for myself, 445 for Tim as he lives a bit further north than I do in Taylor, TX. We rode through Shiner, TX, home of the Shiner Beer brewery but didn't stop there for a tour. The scenery was nice. Sorry, no pics of it.

The Lexington seen here was renamed from USS Cabot while under construction in 1942 after hearing the original USS Lexington was sunk in the Battle of Coral Sea in May 1942. This one was commissioned in 1943 and also served in the Pacific.

Our bikes (Tim: 2012 Kawasaki Concours 14, Myself: 2008 BMW K1200GT) had a good parking spot.

The USS Oriskany was also an Essex class carrier that was sunk off the coast of Florida to create an artificial reef.

Our bikes. Mine got repainted recently after some insurance repairs. Tim's black Connie is just pretty.

Tim doesn't pay attention to his mileage but I do and got just over 42 mpg for the trip. Not bad considering two thirds of the roads we were on had 70 mph limits and we cruised at 85-90 mph on the toll road for a while on the way back north of Lockhart, TX.

Great pics, Dave!! And wow.. 42mpg?! Kinda bums me out that my FZ1 only gets 34.

Thanks Eric. I had a polarized filter on, that helps.

I keep track of every fill up on fuelly.com's website. My odometer is darn close too. Using google maps the route came to 409 miles. My bike registered 409.4 miles for the trip. I know the speedo is very close too. So that makes the tracking accurate. I'm sorry your FZ1 only gets 34, I thought they did better than that. My FZ6 got 45 average. I'm extremely happy with only a 3-4 mpg drop going from the 600 to this 1200 beemer. Yes it uses premium gas but it's still not a wallet buster by any means. 4-5 gallons on every fill up still comes to $15 or so. It's a fun bike to ride even at 630 pounds. Handles cross winds better (we get those a lot where I live). I still like the FZ1 but would probably get the Kawasaki Z1000 or Ninja 1000 if I went that route again. Would like to see what the FZ9 triple is like.

Sunset tonight from my back yard. "...Red sky at night, sailor's delight" as they say.

Very nice. I was going to say that looks like San Diego County. Then I saw you are in Ramona. I grew up in Lakeside. Still miss it even after 13 years in TX.

I thought the best sunsets I ever saw were camping at Gordon's Well out at Imperial Sand Dunes.
