Talk about consideration for others
I didn't want to park too close for reasons detailed in another thread.........:D :D:

you have special parking area for motorcycles?
that sucks!

So it's illegal to park your bike elsewhere?

Here in belgium there are no such parking areas.
We can park wherever we want, as long it's not in the way of traffic and pedestrians.:D

a lot of car parks have free parking for motorbikes, but if you park outside of them, you will get a ticket. The guy on the XJ6 in the picture will have probably got a ticket thanks to the Harley rider,as he was outside of the parking bay in a yellow box junction

Man, i reckon i couldnt resist at least letting the tyres down on that bugger's boat, i mean, bike!

:(

Ha, ha...it took me a minute to realize what was going on. Now I realize that the white area with the hashes on a diagonal are small motorcycle parking spots. Cool idea, but something like that would NEVER work here in the U.S. for the exact reason you're illustrating...TONS of Harley riders that would park their big boats just like that!

What sucks is the guy on the sportbike (is that the Fazer8 or FZ8???) is probably going to get a ticket because of the cruiser rider's stupidity! But, that's what you get when idiots buy bikes that big and think they own the road.

Andz, that's what I originally thought, that it's a FZ1. There was just something about the fairing that looked different to me, though. I guess it's just my mind playing tricks on me!

Hahaha
There's this guy with a BIG bmw K1200LT at work that does the same thing!
He takes up like 3 spots. I get in to work at 9am and I still don't have any place to park my bike! His bike has a reverse gear, too! There's no excuse for him to park like that. I should leave a sticky note on his bike someday.

i don't think it's the harley riders that would make it not work. i think it's the aspect that people in general don't think much of bikes and don't see the need to take up perfectly good car spots with moto spots. especially when so many people in the US don't ride year round. you would have perfectly good christmas parking not being used at the mall or target or walmart. and we just can't have that.

plus, let's add to the fact that you're a rider and have a preconceived idea about harley riders in your head and say it's because of them that it won't work. then there are cruiser riders that don't like sport riders. if we can't even enjoy each other how in the world do we expect the rest of society, who doesn't understand us, to see us in a good light?

not trying to start anything or call you out. just stating why i think it won't happen around here.

i will say in our small town of chapel hill, nc there are actually two moto spots downtown. only problem is they were put there by someone who knows absolutely nothing about bikes. because of the crown of the road (is that the right way to say that?) there is no way to park in the designated spot and put your kickstand down. well there is, but your bike would lean the to the other side and that just wouldn't be good. :D

If you own a bike that is as big as a car then you should be parking in a car spot, not taking up all the bike spots :spank::spank:

We don't have designated spots at work, but we have more than enough parking for bikes to take up individual slots. Another good thing is, the surface they used for this parking lot may as well be concrete. Hard stuff and the bikes almost never sink in at all. I always put mine on the center stand out there too.

When my Boss was riding (has not been for 3 yrs due to shoulder problems) then he would get here early and get a good spot but always left enough room for me to park with him. But now, I'm left to chance....

Hmm deja vu for another recent thread...

Those harley touring bikes and goldwings crack me up. Takes all the things that make a motorcycle unique away. Oh well, to each their own!

You guys really don't have any motorcycle parking out there? Here in New Mexico a lot of places have them, they just take the front couple car spots and make each of them into 3 motorcycle spots. School has plenty of them (but I have seen cars use the one on the end before, I hope they got a ticket), the malls have them, restaurants, even church has one. Unfortunately my work doesn't, but they have a ~20' wide sidewalk and don't mind if I park on it. We don't have that many boat riders though, most of the Harleys here are the non-faired ones.

Even some of the bike shops around here don't have designated bike parking (though they do have concrete pads that bikes have first priority for, but the spaces are car-width).

Then again, most NHites only ride 4 months out of the year, and most of our bike shops are also snowmobile and atv shops.
