The exhausts systems for the fz6 are extremelly expensive so i had an idea.
I found a pair of brand new cans from a yamaha R1 and fitted them on my fz6.
I bought the cans from Danmoto (there is also an ebay shop from this seller)
The pair cost me almost 150 euros.

These are the exhausts:

These are the materials that i have used for the pipework

First of all we have to strip the bike and remove the OEM exhaust.

Then i had to create a bracket so i could hold the eshaust on the tail of the bike.
I just used a pice of 4mm inox plate and choped and drilled it so it can fit to my tail.

After this, i've created a small "hunger" and weld it to the bracket.

By this way i could hang my cans under the tail. After finishing with the bracket, by the way, it took me a couple of hours to do that, i had to make a couple of straps for the cans.
Thats what i did.

After that i've just hunged the cans under the tail.

The pipework took my almost a day to complete it but it worth the effort.
I've started building the Y pipe from scratch and i wanted both of the cans to work with equal exhaust back pressure.
My english are not that good so i cannot explain what i exactly did.
The main idea was to make them work equally.
Every company just uses a straight tube right after the catalytic converter and connect it to the right can (as we see the bike from behind) without any curves. Then they just connect the left can with a T connector in almost 90 degrees.
Thats the easiest way to make a Y pipe for the fz6.
The result is that the right can has a much better flow from the left and the back pressure to each can is not the same.
For me, i just don't like it this way!
I've builded the Y pipe from the catalytic converter to the left can and after finishing that, i had the right can connected to the why pipe with a small curve.
By this way the flow is almost the same and the cans works much better.

Nice work. I agree with you that equal lenght pipes are the best way to go.

Any chance of hearing how they sound?

This is the final position of the cans.
To tell you the truth, i've made some changes but i don't have any photos yet.
I had the cans shorted a litlle bit (20mm) and i've made a small change to the hunger so i can also use the original number plate holder.
I don't have any photos right now but i promise that next time i will wash the bike i will take some and post them.
I hope you like my new exhausts!!!

The lenght it is not equal and there is no way to make them equal.
At list i've managed to make them work almost equal with my Y pipe.

Hearing them???
I could make a video and post it at youtube but we both have to wait.
The last week the weather here in Greece it is not that good and the bike rest in my garage.
Thats why i don't have any photos from the hole bike with the cans fitted!

The only thing that is missing from this thread it is a video but is gonna take a while. The bike needs to be washed, the wheather is too cold and the bike's battery is dead!!!
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for looking!

Of course i have started the bike!
I even had a small ride for 45-50 minutes but the battery is totally wasted and even after one hour of riding it didn't charged enough so i can start the bike for a second time.
I hate pulling up the tank to reach the battery every time the battery goes off.
I'm gonna replace the battery with a new the following days.

The sound... Certainly it is loud. It is metalic and bass at the same time.
At low rpm it is like hearing a GSXR1000 with yoshimura GP evoII on it and at high rpm it sound like a R6 with akrapovic on it.
This is the third pair that im changing on my bike. I cannot say which sounds better but i can say that this exhaust works better than fine.

Awesome job! Love the looks of the cans, and they do look better shortened. Wish I had the technical acumen to pull off jobs like that! Like everybody else, can't wait to hear/see the video.
