Know any good Hotels in New York?

Hi everyone,

Anyone from the US living in or near New York or have good knowledge of the hotels in the area.

My friend here in Ireland is coming over to New York sometime soon for 2 nights stay and requires a good cheap and clean hotel to stay in.

Can you name the hotel and any other relevant info for it?

I'm presuming she wants to be somewhat central or near to the airport/transport to the centre.

Any advice is better then none so whatever you can offer will be so great! :)

Whatever she does, she cannot stay at the Pennsylvania (across from Madison Sq Gardens), unless if she likes dirty and tired rooms at a premium.

There's lots of hotels in the theater district in the center of all the action. Best bet is to scout out expedia.com and hotels.com for reviews and competetive pricing.

Where in NY??
There are nicer and much cheaper hotels in the boros which may be easier to get in and out to than city hotels...

Which airport are they flying into??

she wants to be in the city. Have no idea what airport she's coming into but its an international flight from Ireland so maybe the one with loads of red haired little people with pipes in their mouth and pots of gold!  :D

Honestly I dont think she'll mind so long as its cheap enough, and central. Drop a few names of hotels you know of that are worth staying in. She's "treating" herself but doesn't want to end up in a slum.

OK, here's the deal............You can find very good deals on 2, 3 and four star hotels for long weekends almost all year round if you do your research well. So, if your friend is coming in spring, looking around right now could get you a three night stay in a three star palace, right in the middle of Manhattan for $120 a night. Realistically any place cheaper than $100/night in Manhattan, and in the busy season, is very often a crap shoot in terms of quality, safety and cleanliness. Given that your friend is coming 4000 miles for a bit of fun over a weekend she'd likely be much, much happier knowing that she'll be safe, and staying in a clean hotel rather than a roach/rat infested cheaper establishment where the sheets are changed every three days - and these places are still easier to find than you might think. The advice given earlier to check out expedia.com and and hotels.com is really the way to go. Another great site is travelzoo.com. Bear in mind that the closer you get to the end of April the more expensive Manhattan becomes, just like London, Paris, Milan, Rome.......well I'm sure that you get the idea. There can also be a huge difference in hotel pricing that depends on where in the city you stay. $150 in the east Village can easily translate to $350 on Park Ave......for a CHEAP room. And there are literally hundreds, if not thousands , of hotels in Manhattan.

There are good deals to be had, but figuring out where the best ones would be is almost impossible with the info you've presented so far, so a little more detail might help.
