I'm not too sure about the color of those headers. It almost looks like there is an exhaust leak where the headers connect to the exhaust port. My pipes turned gold but not black. I'd check out any possibility of an exhaust leak. And if it is a leak, that could possibly make the engine run hotter than it should. That picture sure doesn't look normal to me.

OK, today I decided to give the headers a good rub back with 800grit, as per Erci's post. Cheers for that mate!

Took about 5 mins to pull them off, and easy as, so anyone can do it.

this what they looked like before....

After a good scrub.......

But then my mechanic decided to try a different tack.....

And we went with the matt-black header paint option......

To be installed back on the bike tomorrow.......

All up, about 3 hours worth of work including a trip to the auto-shop to get paint and removing/installing headers twice. I'll post a couple of pics once installed tomorrow.

I managed to get my mechanic to do some more work for me. He's really good, doesn't mind getting called out early on a Sunday morning, and all he asks for in payment is some breakfast! Thanks Cameron!

OK, here it is..... the completed job.......

The paint is very easy to scrape off at the moment, but apparently it sets hard once it is heated. I have to touch up a few minor scratches, but otherwise I think this LOOOKS AWESOME!!!

The FZ6 in the USA never had silver headers from the factory they all come with the shiny bronze color coating on them. I have found that they turn nasty looking from riding in the rain. I have just over 10,000 mi on my 08 and there is very minimal discoloration and that is because I don't ride in the rain.

Looks a thousand times better, and if the paint doesnt hold up, well, you can just take them off, rub them back properly, and paint them again...

No more polishing for you.

Man, that ceramic coating is da bomb!

The chrome look and the black are both awesome, but I like the black on a black engine.

Is it very X'y to have done?
My tin of spray paint cost A$18.99, so it was easily justifiable.

btw, that's a trick looking bike Kamloops. I said the same thing to Boneman, I think the gold accents look wicked. And your seat, front guard, headlight, etc etc. Nice ride!
