How do you convert S1 to S2 cluster?
Thanks for the info. Can I use any cluster year after 2007?You're going need an S2 bracket at least. If your bike is naked that's all you'll need but it's helpful to have an FZ6N headlight harness otherwise you'll have a lot of extra wiring. When you convert you'll need to rewire the plug that goes into the S2 cluster. Just match the wiring diagram since the wires are the same color just push them out of the stock plug and color match. I had one odd quirk though, after converting the guages didn't light up and oil light would constantly blink since the S1 harness has 1 or 2 missing wires but otherwise it worked perfecty. You'll have to splice in power for the backlight.
Yes, 07 to 09 as well as FZ1 and FZ6r but the 2 later bikes will not have the same RPM red line. Thanks for the info. Can I use any cluster year after 2007?
Scott, is that directly accessible from under the motor or do you remove the pan?Should just have two bolts securing it to the bottom of the engine:

I bought a S2 speedo and a 2007 wire harness. Is the black wire with an eyelet a ground?Yes, 07 to 09 as well as FZ1 and FZ6r but the 2 later bikes will not have the same RPM red line.
The wire I see in the S2 schematic is black with white tracer. Your black wire may not show the tracer color but I'll bet that is a chassis ground.I bought a S2 speedo and a 2007 wire harness. Is the black wire with an eyelet a ground?
Thanks! I’ll let you know how it goes. The wire I see in the S2 schematic is black with white tracer. Your black wire may not show the tracer color but I'll bet that is a chassis ground.
Very true. There is only 1 black wire associated with the cluster it shows a white tracer. It is attached to other black wires that are chassis (frame or engine) grounds. You can confirm if it’s a ground with a continuity check. Don’t make assumptions with electronics

I have a 2005. I bought a 2007 S2 speedometer and wire harness. I tried plugging in the harness and nothing is working or lighting up. Are the wire harness interchangeable? The connector plugs are the same. This was a wrecked bike that I’m trying to get working. It had no gauges or lights on when I bought it. Not sure if I have to stay with the 2005 Speedo and wiring. I like the S2 look and keeping the naked look. Bike runs fine. Not sure where to start with wiring problems. You're going need an S2 bracket at least.
