I'm think about completely stripping the bike down and painting all the hard parts a different color. Are there any specialty tools needed to do this?

Yea, a credit account at your local auto parts store. LOL!
There's always something you'll have to go and get. A couple of times, haha.
For assembly, an essential would be torqwrench. (sp?) oh well.
