I am thinking about taking a flying to Florida and renting a motorcycle instead of a car when I get there. I see places that rent Harley's. I don't have anything against Harley's but they just seem really big to me.

Has anyone done this before?

Yeah, more than a few times too. Unfortunately they never seem to have my bike, the Roadster, but they do have the 1200 Sporty custom and that's close enough for me. The most I have paid was $145.00 per day and that was a decked out Ultra Classic which the misses and I had a ball with going up the California coast on Highway 1 (aka PCH) through Big Sur. That price included all the necessary gear (jackets, helmets, rain gear0 as well as insurance. The Sporties I have rented went for around $117 per day with gear. The price was never an issue as the fun factor was well up the scale. If you are used to a sportbike then these bikes will be like you driving your family cage and then climbing into a dump truck with an air ride seat. They handle and move slow but what a ride...

I rented a V-rod, I don't remember exactly the dollar amount but I wanna say for an 8 hour rental it was around $300 bucks.

Craig, keep in mind that a cruiser will handle and deliver power in an entirely different way than your FZ6. Nothing to be scared of, just be aware that it will take some getting used to if you've never ridden on before (especially at slow speeds).

I'd look into renting a BMW as they are fairly common...perhaps not in FL though.

Keep us posted.

My wife and I went to Las Vegas in 2002 and rented two new Harley Fat Boys. I think we paid around 140 each for 24 hours. We rode them out to the Valley of Fire State Park, the Hoover Dam, and of course the Harley Davidson Cafe'. We put 200 miles on those bikes and had a blast!! There are some great roads to ride outside of Vegas. The cost? Well, I figured we saved hundreds of dollars. If we had not been riding those bikes, we would have been in the casinos. When my wife and I go to a casino we don't gamble, we just lose! We still have fun, but we had more fun on the bikes!!!:D We both have ridden a lot of different types of motorcycles, so it doesn't bother us if it is a sport bike, cruiser, or scooter. We have fun just being on two wheels!:Sport:

thanks guys. I think I might give it a try....although I will look to rent a BMW instead of a Harley, it sounds like renting a Harley is more fun than renting a car.

Here in Vegas, there a a number of places that rents Harleys. But you can also rent a BMW 800 something at the local BMW dealership. You may want to check and see if BMW rents down in Florida too.

Very true. You put a knee into the tank or shift weight on the pegs of a sportbike and it moves, the heavyweight just laughs at you. More clutch throttle inputs for the big guys.
