The Suzuki Hand guard has been used in the FJR community. You might try a set of those from the Suzuki dealer if he'll let you bring them back if they don't fit.
I've been down at 55 and 70 mph and didn't get a scratch either time.
I'll say it again ATGATT.

People who ride in flip flops and a wife beater get exactly what they deserve.
One other thing you can do to help when it gets cold is hand guards. They aren't aesthetically too pleasing but they definitely help block the cold air effectively making the wind chill a moot point.
Make sur e you get anti-reflective coating put on your glasses the next time you get them. It helps alot at night in general. Bugs/rain etc..... not much you can do.
With practice you will be able to hold the throttle steady with the index and middle fingers of your right hand while rotating the barrel with the pniky and fourth finger.

I bought a fieldsheer jacket retail was over 200 dollars and I got it for 99
Also Heine Gericke boots for 99 originally 200.
I have a Throttlemiester on my FJR and like it real well but it can be a bit awkward to set until you get used to it. It holds the speed well on level surfaces but will slow a bit going up hill and speed up a bit going down hill.
