    LED helmet display

Thanks for tagging me - I did kind of get this to work a while back...and yes, life definitely gets in the way! I just started renting a space at a local custom motorcycle shop, so I'm getting some more quality time with the bike now. =) Regarding this project, I managed to *listen* to the bike...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Serial data capture is a success! I was able to captures some useful looking data tonight...the IC I ordered to bring the bike's K-line (serial) signal down to something the arduino likes has not come in yet, so I decided to try and manipulate the signal with what components I have...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

I should have specified: The first and obviously a photograph is from the oscilloscope I borrowed from work, and the second is from iwasz's black box project. He used a Saleae logic analyzer to get the fancy and very detailed image. I attached both images to compare how my signal looked very...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

So...because I couldn't wait until the weekend... I hooked my an oscilloscope up to the "K-line" and managed to capture what looked like bits! The number of bits and even the bits themselves looked quite similar to the initial data that "iwasz" captured for his black box project: Motorcycle...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Fantastic info! For some reason I never made the connection that the ECU probably communicates via serial...I will probably take another stab at using my circuit to read RPM and speed when my schmitt triggers arrive in the mail, but this is intriguing, and could make 'reading' the info from the...

    2005 FZ6S parts bike w/2004 R6 forks

I actually am in the market for a wiring harness (the one attached to the instrument cluster). If you'd be willing to part with that and ship to NY, that would be fantastic. -mark

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Hey all, I was able to successfully get the CPS signal into my arduino! Blah It's not perfect, and I'm still working out some kinks...I attached an image of the circuit I used: CPS signal > 50k resistor > zener clipping circuit > comparator-turned schmitt trigger with resistors...(waiting...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Hmmm...so if that is true, there is the possibility of the counter missing pulses OR triggering the counter more than once per pulse...depending on the speed of the counter IC? I was learning via video, and the counter the guy was using a counter that he described would switch logic based on...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

...since the digital counter IC should "flip" each binary switch when it detects the falling edge of a pulse, as long as each pulse is separate it shouldn't miss any....the two teeth that are really close seem concerning but if I'm reading the o-scope image correct each pulse seems to definitely...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

So I'm at the point where I need to start playing with circuits or I will end up researching things until the end of time. I'm going to take a stab at regulating the crazy CPS signal with a zener diode clipper circuit, then feed it into a 555 counter IC. I tested a clipper circuit with a 12v AC...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

I did notice, I haven't had a chance to read through the thread you posted in detail, but I figured if I am just counting the number of pulses over a period of time, the offset tooth on the trigger wheel wouldn't cause a huge issue. The voltage on the other does seem like it could be a pain...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Excellent ideas and info! chunkygoat, the digital counter IC definitely intrigues me! I like the idea of leaving the counting to that IC, it make the code simpler for keeping track of the RPM. I am a digital guy and understand digital much better than analog, but at the same time I would like...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

Thanks for the reply -- A comparator would seem to produce a more accurate/stable signal for the Arduino than simply feeding the positive spectrum of a sine wave into the arduino. I've been doing more research and according to wikipedia: "A comparator normally changes its output state...

LED Panel & Arduino instrument cluster

With a long overdue streetfighter conversion starting to take shape in my head, I had idea to create a custom instrument cluster using an Arduino and an LED Panel. I wanted something that would stand out, that would allow me to design a simple, pretty, and effective way of showing the...

Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!

This spark plug cap fix solved a horrendous year long saga of buzzing for me! I was It started over a year ago when the buzzing crept in...the worst vibrations were limited to 6k to 8k rpm, and nothing before 5k. Ironically FinalImpact posted a link to this thread last year on my problem thread...

Loud Buzzing at 7000rpm and up (video)

FIXED! It took me a good year to actually get around to solving this...and the answer was six posts back...I feel a bit like I missed something staring me in the face... A few days ago I was starting a 6 hour ride down to visit family in Maryland...I still hadn't been able to ignore the nasty...

Loud Buzzing at 7000rpm and up (video)

Thanks so much for all the responses! I am going to check the radiator guard later tonight! Just got home from vaca in Florida so I've been itching to test out everyone's theories. If this noise actually gets fixed I will probably pee my pants out of excitement. :BLAA: I will post results...

Loud Buzzing at 7000rpm and up (video)

Unfortunately I still haven't solved this one...I thought it was something loose like bodywork too, but I actually took the Entire front end off and rode up and down my street. Still could hear it...I tried to lean over while riding to try and locate it and it sounds like it is coming from the...

Loud Buzzing at 7000rpm and up (video)

Thanks for the input--I was worried about it because it is so loud. I can clearly hear it when riding, the video is pretty accurate to real life. It definitely started at a certain point as well, it would have been something I noticed when I purchased the bike. There isn't any performance loss...
