I have been looking for a sound clip of an open FZ6 stock exhaust that still had the cat in place for a while and this is it. The guy opened the belly of the can and removed the baffles. He then welded in a Y pipe that went out the stock exhaust outlets and sealed up the can. Not bad for next to nothing in cost. For me, it answers the question of popping on throttle closure and I don't see it as being any louder than the Scorpion clips I have heard. I will however be loosing the entire can and running stainless pipe off the cat outlet tube near the pillion peg.

Ditto, I've been waiting on the custom exhaust for a couple of months now, come on Charlie, it's time to pony up!

Stand bye Sarge. We're gonna take that hill and we'll be sure we hang on to it.... All good things come to those who plan their research well and execute through understanding of a desired end result. It's only taken three months to get a sound clip. I'll be done by the time the bike hits anniversary #4 in July. Just in time for the Woodward Dream Cruise......

That is the new European fuel injected XR1200 sportbike from Harley. I haven't got my free ride on the 1125R yet but friends in California that have had theirs say it was awesome...

Hey, just be sure you mark that calendar in the faster bright blue.....

Good stuff Charlie,

I have to keep the CAT though due to euro emission laws gutted (pardon the pun) lol.

Can you do a detailed step by step of how to take the baffles out. My fz6 sounds so quiet and I have no money lol.

Sounds pretty awesome!

Are you serious? Now that I want to see!

That's the best part, you won't be able to see it but I will take pictures of the fabrication process. When done, it will look bone stock. Hah, what a sleeper.. Just wait till it gets fired up and the heads start scratching. Then, when they ask how much and you say $100-150 you'll get to laugh at the reactions. Just think, it never has to be repacked......

This has been a big issue for me Neil. The cat will offer back pressure and I am hoping it is enough to keep the ECU happy and with the parameter extremes. If so, this mean no re-map or use of a power commander. If not, it means playing with slip in baffles. Years ago when they first came out with the pancake type cats for cages we would use them for the muffler and it worked with the OBDI systems. Either way it will sound great and the cost savings factor is huge..

Charlie, cold you if possible do the mod in two stages. Stage 1) Just gut the back box (will I have a similar result in terms of sound?) Then stage 2) gut the cat?
I just have to leave the cat for those bloody MOT's. What is worst cas scenario? will I develop a huge flat spot, will I need PCIII to sort out ignition problems. I know all my questions are prior to the event but really interested. For mr the gutted stodk had a great performance sound whilst looking like a stock bike.

Did he post a how to? or pics of his process? I am interested in yours and his, and of course mine when i do it this summer.

I misunderstood - I thought Hav was just gonna have a "straight" pipe that ended just above the Cat.

I am taking the back end off which involves the pipe from the connection just behind the rear reservoir to the factory can. Yup, all 12 pounds of it is going bye-bye. I would like to hold the mod to 6 pounds. I want stainless steal tubing because it lasts forever and never rusts. The new pipe will go under the seat and split to go out the current gill assembly. It will look just as it does now but sound like the clip or maybe better as the pipes will be larger. Either way it sounds great and it is 75% cheaper.
