Police Scanners

I was thinking about buying myself a police scanner. I have no experience and know nothing about them other than what I just read on line and that I probably want a digital trunking scanner. I also probably want a hand held one for starters.

Do you have one? What do you have? Pictures? Do you use it a lot? Do you use it for NASCAR? Is it fun? If you have one, would you buy the same one again? Advice?

Full encryption would require all new expensive equipment and transceivers.
They must be willing to spend millions of dollars to outfit a department.
