I was curious as to where all you Tucson natives take your bikes for service and repairs? Extremely new to motocycles so I don't have any mechanical experience yet. I know of Big Johns Garage, but do they specialize in the crusier line only?

If you go with the Fz6 I would say it's easy to work on. I had pretty much next to no mechanical experience prior to getting my Fz6 and figured a bunch of stuff out by watching youtube and following threads on the forum here.

I changed the oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs. I was about to change the radiator fluid before I wrecked my Fz6. I was also planning on doing the throttle body sync myself and checking the wheel alignment.

I found doing the work to be fun and the only thing I couldn't do by myself was change the #1 cylinder plug because I couldn't reach with my giant hands (XXL gloves). So you may need someones help there.

The only other thing you may want a friend to help with is setting the preload in the rear shock.

I agree. The FZ6 is my first bike and I've changed both tires, the oil (twice) and flushed the coolant. I've also installed all my mods myself. The bike is simple to work on. The service manuals are a great tool (and can be had for free if you ask nicely, or google), and I bought a haynes manual off fleabay for $5 (free shipping). The only time I'll go to the shop is for something I'm too lazy to do myself. And if you ever have questions, post them to the forum. There's always someone ready to answer. And if you want to drive up this way I'm glad to lend a hand with what I can (I have a lot of the tools you need for this bike). I've got a nice garage space in the south Chandler area to use, pretty much as close to Tucson as you can get in the Phoenix metro area.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. Glad to know regular upkeep is easy. What about tougher jobs like fork seals, sprockets and chains?

I've got the tools for the sprocket/chain so I'd tackle that myself. Fork seals, I've never really looked into it, but I see on here people do it themselves all the time. Probably just look at what the cost of the tools and materials would be versus the cost of taking it to the shop. I figure I can always screw it up myself and then let the shop fix it, they're gonna charge me an arm and a leg anyway...:spank:

I would probably try to do the sprocket and chain myself. But if you get a low mileage bike I've heard of guys getting a few years out of their chain and sprocket with a good chain lube schedule.

Fork seals I won't mess with because it would be messy, har har har. I'm going to get racetech springs put in my bike and goldvalves. For them to do the install and rebuild the fork I think it's like $160-240 or about 2-3 shop hours to do it. When it comes to stuff that keeps the rubber on the road like suspension or safety like brakes I'll pay somebody to do it. I'm don't trust my mechanic skills enough just yet.
