If your into cause and effect; this right up your alley. Pretty amazing what happened here and that no one was injured when a Rolls Royce turbine explodes in flight.. .. ..

Although I'm sure this is true that countless events of some small factor occur, its VERY RARE to loose containment of turbine as such to cause damage to the plane and throw 1/3 of the power plant into the surrounding sky/ground. Planes are stuck by birds constantly taking out engine(s). Rarely do they loose control over flight surfaces as a result. yes, they loose an engine, but they maintain control. This failure mode really switched that up.

From a mechanical stand point, I'm really surprised this played out as it did in a positive manor. It could have been so much worse. Hats off the folks who landed that plane in those conditions!

Not sure if this came out before or after the actual incident... i saw it about 6 months ago. Pretty crazy the metallurgy techniques in manufacturing.

Building the RR engine; at the plant.
