Amateur Hour: Handlebar mounted mirror removal

Okay, so I made this thread today. Then two minutes after I made it I thought I had sorted my problem and edited the thread to say as much.

Well this is edit number three as I'm still having problems.

As you can see the left mirror came off just fine. However, the right mirror will not budge. Any suggestions?

On the left side the nut (red arrow) was simply turned anti-clockwise and that was that. The same will not work on the right though.

Also, can somebody explain to me, the purpose of the nut labelled with the blue arrow?

I'm just guessing, but could it be that right side uses reverse thread? Try turning nut to the right to loosen.

Turns out you were correct. However, in the end it took some WD40, and two people! When trying to turn the nut the whole brake lever unit was moving. Needed a friend to hold the unit whilst I turned the nut incredibly hard.

Cheers.
