Went to visit my girlfriend last night. Parked the bike up on a little bit of the walkway that juts out into the parking lot. Said extension houses a white box that controls what would have once (it's been broken forever) controlled the gate and bar that blocks it; that's where I parked.

It looked a bit off last night, and upon inspection in the morning - someone pushed it backwards and into the gate box. I had the steering locked and it was in gear as to prevent too much foolery, and I found it still partially upright (as it seems they couldn't move it, only managing to know enough to flick the kill switch) and with minor damage. My lever was sheared off, and there's a bit of white paint transfer to the bar end - but everything else is intact. I'm praising the designers at Yamaha for making the mirrors able to fold inward completely since that spared me having to pay for an extra mirror.

So, I'm unsurprisingly trying to get the bike back into a road worthy state. Need to get it home somehow later today, but for now I'm interested in knowing what my options are. Stock levers? Custom levers? Can I still find stock ones out there? I like the look of some custom levers I've seen but I wouldn't know which pair would be worth purchasing. Any advice in this regard is appreciated!

I have a set (brake & clutch) in the parts section. I may be mistaken but i believe it has to clear customs so finding something in your area would be best...

You weren't kidding about the parts being abundant and cheap. I went to a local bike dealership today and had them price something out for me to order in - and I was told that they'll likely be able to get the correct lever by tomorrow afternoon, and it only ran me up about $35 - which is more than fine with me, even if my budget is a bit tight being a college student and all.

Should be able to smack it on myself tomorrow and ride the bike home. Quite the experience though, and they place I had it at happens to have cameras in the lot - so there's a (very slim) chance we might be able to determine who did it.

On the plus side, I got a call today and have landed an interview with the Millwright Union in Toronto, which has me really excited since it means that once I graduate I can go on to an apprenticeship and the likes! Made today a little less 'blah' than it would have been.

Maybe a good time to get some aftermarket levers? They come in various colors.

I certainly thought about it, although I'm going to hold onto that thought for a later date. As it stands I'm trying to budget some money and make sure I've got enough to keep me going while I get my finances in order. If/when that happens, I'll see how much I've got left over and start looking into modifications like that - I'd especially like a different clutch lever.

I think i have a lever. I switched mine out as it was slightly bent from previous owner. I'll have a look tonight.

I've got a lever ordered that'll fit. Not sure if it comes with a bolt and locknut however...

Installation (assuming the new lever comes with the extra required stuff) should be as simple as sliding it back in and tightening everything up, right? Here's a picture of the piece I do have - and the rest is still on the bike parked at my girlfriend's.

Got this ordered Lever, OEM Style, Brake | Motion Pro . The portion that is still on the bike and sheared appears to be the part where the piece I have attaches to the rest of the front brake setup where it tore right through the aluminum.

Says "We recommend careful inspection of the pivot bolt when replacing a lever and that you replace the pivot bolt and lock nut if there are any signs of wear or if the prior lever suffered any impact damage." What/Where are these exactly?

If the lever is GOOD, the right side perch is the Master Cylinder assembly. It's likely not cheap either...

Notice this lever has a break away tip so it snaps should it take an impact.

Right Side: What is REALLY Broken? We all would have sent you a lever...

Left side:

Right Side: What is REALLY Broken?

Best I can explain it - everything is intact except where the metal that held the lever on sheared away. The pin type thing that runs through the lever, and through a piece of metal that goes through the middle is what got torn out. The metal that would have held the pin sheared off on the one side, and the lever popped off as a result.

Best way I can explain it without pictures (I should have taken some, although since it wouldn't be covered by insurance it never crossed my mind) is this:

Alternative, Right Side, Number 25 on the diagram - notice the extra bits of metal that jut out in order to activate the brake in one spot and the light in the other - those little bits are what's left on the master cylinder assembly. Note how the lever I have that's off the bike does not have those protrusions to activate the switches or whatever they are.

These things:

Lever I ordered appears to have everything, and shows the two piece assembly I'm talking about:

I think that I should be able to fix it. Appears to be everything I'll need... Although I'm certainly considering some pretty custom ones for the future :3

US -->> Canada will take some time.

Shipping to Canada is about the same as in the US(time wise), just no tracking.. You do have to fill out a customs form on-line (about 5-7 minutes) and bring with you to the PO. https://www.usps.com/-(international shipping)

If you go to the USPS web site with the weight/demensions, where in Canada its going, it'll give you an exact price. Its also cheaper if you buy postage on-line.

I ship my FJR helmet lock brackets worldwide and charge maybe $5.00 more for international.

BTW, I tried some top of the line aftermarket levers a couple of years ago.. I did not like them at all. The main reason was the forward edges of the levers has two fairly sharp corners vs the stock lever, much more beveled/comfy. I do wear gel leather gloves but it was still extremly annoying.. The adjustments was very nice but I ended up sending them back..
