Are you using the OEM S1 speedo?
If you can't fix it by hitting it with a hammer, it's electrical!

I have to wire up a motogadget digital speedo, because the damn s1 is so huge and ugly.

Side note: its weird that the forums aren't called fz6forums any more!

I've wired an ACE 6000 series spedo/tech to my DRZ project. It was very easy and straight forward. However, I don't think I'd tackle that project with the FZ6. Our spedo is also an interface with the ECM. By hacking the connectors you will certainly lose functionality with the ECM (on-board diagnostics), but you may also lose all communication and functionality. This is just my opinion/fear...have other had success with this?

    Re: vision's FZ6 streetfighter

    Plus1^^^^^^

The FZ6 incorporated a data line out from the ECU to a CPU in the instrument cluster. This data includes fault/error codes, speed, rpm, engine coolant temp, CEL and fuel gauge. All of these forementioned sensors are read by the ECU and it clocks out the data on one wire to the cluster CPU to be displayed by the readout.

Where it might get tricky is if there is not an engineering standard to read and handshake the data to a non OEM cluster. Directional indicators, oil level sensor, neutral safety light, high beam indicator are all direct via separate signals.

For these reasons I would try to obtain and interpret specifications on any non OEM instrument cluster to insure compatibility.
You might just want to up grade to the S2 type instrument cluster.

Yellow with a blue tracer wire is your data line and it should not be attached at any time to an incompatible voltage source.

And this is exactly why we have forums! Thanks in advance. I'll use that gauge on my Virago or something..

So the S2 cluster, looks to be the same as theFZ6R cluster? FZ1? FZ8 has a cool white face, all the same maybe...
