    tej98's FZ6 Maintenance/Adventures Thread

Hello fellow FZ6 riders! I wanted a place to document my 2004 Faster Blue FZ6 adventures and thought this forum would be a great place! I've been obsessed with the FZ6 ever since my dad bought a silver one in 2005. He recently passed it off to my brother and got a 1997 BMW R850R to ride. When we found the blue FZ6 in North Carolina we hopped in the pickup truck and brought it back to Georgia.

A few details about the bike - We purchased it from the original owner who was tired of seeing it sit in his garage. It came with fairly new Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires on the front and rear, LSL frame sliders, what I believe to be FAZR6's fender eliminator kit, and a well worn tank bag. It had around 11,000 miles on it when we brought it home. Here are a few pics from the trip:

    All loaded up:

    Mid trip:
    tej98's FZ6 Maintenance/Adventures Thread-img_2650-jpg

As you can see from the pictures, it hadn't been washed in a long time. The chain was covered in dirt and beneath all the dirt it had a coating of surface rust.

to our great forum! The FZ6 is a very different animal in the higher rpm ranges and will surprise you.

Thanks! So far I've just been cleaning it up and casually riding it around with my dad and brother. I haven't really taken it past 8k rpm yet, still just getting used to the bike. I actually enjoy the stock exhaust sound, but I haven't heard an aftermarket exhaust in person yet!

Thanks! So I have heard haha. I will definitely be taking it easy for the next few months as I get used to it and ride it around here. I haven't really taken it above 8k rpms yet, but it has no problem outrunning anything on the road even without going above 8k

Here ya go for cleaning, some metal cleaner (I use Maquires), lots of elbow grease, cheap cleaning, lots of "wow"!

Some sound with aftermarket pipes(just low RPM's, showing charging voltages (Scorpions):

Wow! Looks great! I did something similar to mine a couple weeks ago (actually bought the bike in November).

    Re: tej98's FZ6 Maintenance/Adventures Thread

So first off after purchase was some general cleaning. As you could probably tell from the pictures on the first post, the previous owner wasn't the best at keeping it very clean.

I cleaned the entire bike and chain thoroughly. Then lubed the chain up so its good to go for a while:

The rear wheel still has some stains, but I will keep trying to get those out over time. Any times to remove hard embedded stains in the wheel?

I don't have pictures of this but we installed a quick connect charger on the battery for a battery tender while I am away at college since this bike only gets ridden on nice weekends!
Next, I polished up the exhaust headers since they were so stained. I just used some metal polish my dad had laying around on a foam pad attached to an electric drill along with a green scotch pad:

After that, I got some matching front/rear axle sliders for my birthday so we installed those:

    All installed on the bike:

In between all of this, my brother's FZ6 needed new tires so he opted for the Michelin Pilot Road 2 on the front and rear since we read great reviews on grip and tread life on those. Here it is in our garage as he pulled both wheels off:
