Is there a tire other than racing tires that are rated for over 200mph? Defy? What do you use?

I'm not aware of any outside of shaved racing tires that you'd not want on the road.

I have to ask... "Why?" ;) We all know that the FZ6 isn't getting there... heck, even a stock Hayabusa can't do it without some mods.

You got me straight-trippin' Boo! :D

Yes, the ZR rating on a DOT tire has a minimum speed rating of 186 and it is suggested the consumer call the tire manufacturer to get a specific limitation on the maximum. The standard Z speed rating is 186mph. You will not that MA Augusta limits the speed of the F4CC to 195mph simply because of the tires.

Asking for my husband he wants to hit that mark maybe out at the salt flats.. his top speed is 160 so we were just curious, he needs new tires I did some research so I think we are getting the road smart touring but if you have another suggestion.. I am all ears errr, eyes. hehe

He needs to go to Maxton where the ECTA makes it official. The salt flats aren't as smooth as Maxton. One of my dreams to to be at a Maxton event and see these 200 MPH Club members actually doing this! Have him read the article I posted above. Good stuff!!!

Boo, running on the salt flats is quite different than a street. If I were hitting the salt I would be contacting the folks that do it. When I lived in California that was the Southern California Timing Association. The folks used to run on El Mirage dry lake just outside Adelanto California.

He has a ZZR1200 with a factory jet kit, with Muzzy exhaust. 160hp currently.. It is a beautiful bike.. I always think, I should take it for a ride.. but it is huge for me.

We will be sure to do that. If/when we get to do it. that is down the road... but he likes to dream, and I can't deny him anything.. so I try to make things happen.. I'll be honest, I am not going to encourage this one. He asked me to ask around so I did.... we shall see how it pans out.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTfKJFrUi9w"]YouTube - 200 MPH Motorcycle Crash[/ame]

This is why you don't want to try the salt flats. Maxton is an old air strip thus a trial of speed on pavement. The video above is the ONLY guy ever to survive a 200+ MPH crash on a bike.

The downside to Maxton is you have to make it through the ranks to get an official timed run.

I'll help out to but I think it's a hugely insane thing to do, grin! I'd love to be there to support him though!

Here's last years rules link for the bikes: Super Streetbike First-Annual Top Speed Shootout

Here's the sanctioning site for ECTA: Welcome to ECTA

The people to look up to for this feat! Welcome to ECTA » 200 Club

The offical bike records per class: Welcome to ECTA

And a Youtube for the ECTA compilation:

It's a heck of a challenge and can get very expensive to accomplish this. Tell him "Good luck!"

There's a huge difference between 160mph and 175mph. Move the bar up to 200mph and the difference becomes the size of a mountain. Look at the FZ6 that make a very respectable 90+hp and it will top out around 150mph. The Hayabusa tops out around 186mph yet it has double the horsepower. Much like Einstein's famous E=MC2 the faster you go the more mass becomes an issue and the more power you need to get the job done, The FZ6 has that 90+hp and runs an 11.3 quarter mile. The AA/FC will run a 4.90 quarter mile yet it has 50 times the horsepower and is only 2/3 quicker to the mark. My point is simply this, that bike is going to need an unreal amount of power to hit that 200mph mark.

Good luck,
Charlie

FZ6NH, the salt flats, when groomed for the events, are smoother than Maxtom will ever dream of being. El Mirage is another example. When groomed for an event, that thing is dead smooth as opposed to the concrete expansion joints of that old air strip. If you ever get the chance to go to an event on the salt flats, do not hesitate to go as it is an awesome experience.

If you watch some of the videos from both events as well as listen to the record holders (for bikes) they all prefer Maxton over the flats for record runs. The flats and El Mirage are far better for vehicles with more than two wheels. These record breakers have more confidence on tarmac hence their preference. Now, since sanctioned events and points run carry them to all three locations, they haven't a choice but to run all three to remain in contention for the title and a run up the ladder.

Charlie, I would love a chance at seeing sanctioned events at all of these locations. Perhaps when I retire, I'll follow the circuit at that time for a long running tour! THAT would be fun!

I've seen a few videos of Maxton and it was really easy to tell when they hit a expansion joint as you could hear it in the exhaust. The one chick that went on to set the 207mph record with her naked Busa was complaining about them. At the flats the riders have to watch out for wind conditions which makes a huge difference both at Bonneville and El Mirage. I've had bikes on both (not for the time trials) and can honestly say the faster you go the smoother it gets but the wind can kick your butt. The misses dad was a fuel specialist for GM and as a hobby helped out at the Reno Air Races and Bonneville for years. His name is Bob Jenk and the stories this guy has are unreal.
