Looks like your 1st post so :welcome: to the forum! :)

Also there may be other problems like the regulator rectifier. There are tests you can do to the stator. Do a search and you should find info and procedures to do the tests.

Post #14 here----> http://www.600riders.com/forum/garage-mechanical-help/42402-battery-not-charging.html

What some one guesses is wrong and what is really wrong can be 2 very different things.

Has the battery been charged and load tested?

if only the stator is broken (you will need to check and find out) then you can rebuild it by hand for maybe $30-40 (main cost is copper wire and some epoxy resin). I made a tutorial on this last year

there are 4 main things it could be:
- bad regulator/rectifier (RR)
- bad stator
- bad battery
- a bad connection or earthing problem somewhere

the first two are probably the most likely, it could also be a combination, if the batter has had charging problems then it could damage it.

One important tool you will need is a multi-meter to try and diagnose and isolate the problem. A motorcycle battery charger would also be useful (most car ones will damage a bike battery)

the regulator/rectifier is a single unit and is underneath the tank hinge

the stator is on the left side of the engine

Before you start buying any parts charge the battery and see if it can hold a charge. Although you may get the impression that that charging system components need to be changed and that might be, the battery is the most likely part to go bad.
