Well last weekend I was at Castle Combe Circuit for the Fowlers Pro-Bike race meeting.

It was a special anniversary, celebrating 60 years of motorcycling at the circuit and I was taking part in the Parade.

I was riding bike number 118, built in 1951 !!! It's a 350cc flat twin Douglas Plus 80. The bike is one of my father-in-laws, you can see him in the first picture to the left of me on bike 118, he's the shorter gentleman in jeans and checked shirt. He still rides on the road, but not on the track anymore, although he was racing back in the 50's up to the late 90's.

Anyway this was my third year taking part in the Parade and I had never made it to the 2nd session of the day, so I was going to nurse the bike on the first session and give it some on the second, which worked.

All in all a great day, even if I was the slowest, but I was riding by far the oldest bike on the track !! :cheer:

Outstanding! Dad used to take me to Castle Coombe as a kid.

Great pics and I'm impressed with the Douglas and the Matchless

What brakes ? !!!

There's knack to stopping it, you have to use both brakes with lots of rear and it stops reasonably well, plus a bit of changing down, although do it too fast and the back wheel skids a little :rolleyes:

(I think my mountain bike hydraulic brakes are better.)

There were some awesome bikes, yes that Matchless was sweet. As for the Douglas, well I have been riding it on the road too, plus it has a "sibling" in Gold and another one the way in the shed in bits . . . . .
