Goker and I decided to catch up and go for a ride.
It was very hot and humid today, but we managed to get a good ride in.
The thermometer on my bike said 91F.

We rode around Point of Rocks, Maryland and then stopped by for some ice cream at South Mountain Creamery.
The bikes. Goker's fz6 and my f800gs.

We stopped by the Civil War Correspondents Memorial Arch.
It had rained a bit on Friday, and so the bugs were eating us alive!

War....what is it good for? If you ask me....absolutely nothing...

Goker and his fz6-forum shirt.

Will there ever be a memorial for embedded reporters? It's just not the same anymore....

We rode around Thurmont, MD and then back down into West Virginia.
We stopped by Harpers Ferry. Lots of history here. Now it's a hipster paradise.

Here's the Potomac River. You can go kayaking, tubing and rafting here.

IMG_0632.jpg

There was a race to the west (Ohio) between the canal and railroad.
The railroad won.

Here's me. I am wearing a synthetic moisture wicking shirt from Target.
IMG_0629.jpg

Harpers Ferry is the site of John Brown's raid, prelude to the Civil War.

Harpers Ferry is close to bicycle trails along the defunct C&O canal and the famous Appalachian Trail (for hiking). There are some nice places to eat here, but unfortunately not much parking. This restaurant (Hannah's Train Depot) lets bikes park in the grass. We ate here.

Good food. Awesome fries!!
IMG_0625.jpg

I had the fish and chips and they were great!

I wish I had a photo of the restroom. It was the size of a closet.

We were able to test out our new comms. We both bought the Scala Cardo G4. It is sweet. We were able to talk to each other just fine almost 100% of the time. I had my windscreen off, so I got a lot of wind noise. The comms unit did a great job of filtering out a lot of the noise, though. Check out the review here.

Goker got hit by a nasty bug:

Hot and sweaty, I ran into the shower as soon as I got home....

Excellent!! Exactly the sort of stuff I look to find on any given ride (pigs and bugs! :rof: ). Love the arch and the train car! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. What ever kind of bug that was that hit Goker's windscreen must have been huge! haha Glad the windshield was there.

I am jealous too. I would love to join you guys next time if you want another rider. I haven't explored Maryland that much on my bike. My friends and I usually end up going to PA.

It scared the **** out of me when that thing exploded on my windscreen. Yes, I am very glad that did not happen on my helmet visor, although, I had to clean it few times during the ride from smaller ones. :)

It was a last minute get together; I posted it on the forum that morning. :)
