Myself and a buddy are looking to do a journey in July and get out
of Canauckistan, we're in S. Ontario. The N/E has been pretty well
traveled, south through Michigan/Ohio/Kentucky I've done in a car
and found it dreadfully boring until you hit Tennessee (sorry if you
live in one of those places and are offended). I've always wanted to
see the American Badlands. I have a general idea that they start in
the Dakotas and include parts of Wyoming and Montana as well.

Anyway, my question(s): is my understanding of the location of
this region accurate? In order to do this we'll cross the US border
at Sarnia (Pt. Huron) and travel across Michigan, the UP, Wisconsin
Minnesota and finally into ND. Anyone done that? From central Michigan
to ND? Is it a dreadful journey? Looks like around a 20 hour ride,
so prolly 3 days, and if it's just flat out boring that'd be a bummer.

hmm, shameless bump, 24 hours, 24 views too, and no one knows
anything about riding a motorcycle in MI, WI, MN or ND :don'tknow:

If you make an effort to go to the Badlands of South Dakota, you might as well go the distance and head even more west.

The UP of Michigan, Northern WI, and parts of MN are fairly wooded. Generally the further north you are, the better. From Brainerd/Alexandria/Fergus Falls (all in MN) and west into ND it is pretty brutal.

I did Saskatoon to Minneapolis in one day last summer, that makes this trip look like a really interesting ride.
