Note: This only applies to EU spec bikes with immobiliser system (2 black keys, one red master key as standard)

Contacted several dealers without luck, in the end I contact Yamaha support directly. In this scenerio, you have lost either one or both of the black coded keys and you have the red master key.

You must have the full key set (2 black, 1 red), if you try to only code one then the other will no longer work as the immobiliser system recodes all the keys.

  1. Lay all three keys on the seat next to eachother
  2. Ensure the master key is working by turning ignition to ON and starting engine
  3. Turn the red master key to OFF position and wait approx. 30 seconds until red key indicator light begins to flash
  4. Switch red master key on and off, you do not need to wait for electrical system to finalise
  5. Put first key in quick succession, turn to ON, then OFF
  6. Put second key in quick succession, turn to ON, then OFF
  7. Turn second key to ON position and try to start engine, if it works, remove key and try the 1st key you coded
  8. If you can start the engine with both keys, then the process is complete.
