Rules:

1) You must have done an "S" (windshield/fairing) to "N" (Naked) conversion to post in this thread. All other posts (comments, questions...) will be deleted. Please pm the people directly if you have questions.

2) post the best 2-3 pictures (different angles) of your FZ6 naked/streetfighter.

3) post a list of your mods (recommended: include price and source info if possible).

4) add details of the headlight you chose, including details about where you bought/got it from, and how you mounted it on your FZ6 (pics, videos, sketches, drawings... welcome).

5) add a link to your "build thread" or "picture thread" if you already have one on this forum.

6) any relevant advice you may have for people interested in doing this.

I have the feeling (based on the number of messages I get about doing the conversion) this thread will help a bunch of people.

FZ1N headlight

Alright let's start this with the FZ1N headlight which seems to be pretty popular these days.

What:
Headlight + stay. As far as I know, 2 ways to get it: Burlington Yamaha sells a kit for about $800, or you can use the parts list there http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/13504-fz1n-headlight-parts-list.html and order from whoever you want. Online, partshark.com seems to be consistently cheaper for OEM Yamaha parts than everywhere else. Top notch customer service too. The whole thing should set you back just a little under $500 shipped in the US.
Besides the headlight you will need to fabricate a small bracket to attach the bottom of the headlight to your frame (details in the links below).
Also, you will need fork clamps (43mm) to attach the top. Those clamps are known to work and have been used by many: Fly-N-Cycle Motorsports-Motorcycle Parts and Gear Online If you want to find others, shop for very thin clamps; the headlight sits very close to the forks and there is not much space for the clamps. For example, these NON SLOTTED HEADLIGHT BRACKET KIT do NOT fit.
Mirrors, well go with what you think looks good. If you want bar mount mirror, this works to attach them to your bars: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/MIRROR-BRACKET-EMGO-INTERNATIONAL-LTD/dp/B000WMNLG6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1250649253&sr=1-9]Amazon.com: MIRROR BRACKET 10mm BLACK ~ EMGO INTERNATIONAL LTD ~: Automotive[/ame]

How:
Refer to these threads:
http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/3228-fz1n-naked-headlight-project.html
http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/14185-fz1n-headlight-install.html
http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/18717-urbanjs-fz6n-conversion-journey-begins.html
Might be some more in the streetfighter section but these 3 should give you a really good idea of what is involved in doing this conversion. It's really not that hard, just takes a little while putting it all together.

PM me if I forgot anything or if you have any questions after you read the 3 install threads above.

I'll get a write up in here soon; I actually have to write it first!

She's been nekkid for almost two years now! And I'm on Version 2!

Pics / Write up coming!

(Also, once the mods approve the thread .. I'll have the write-up from my trip to Deals Gap posted).

I've done the Buell headlight set up a while ago. I think this is the best mod I've done so far. I dont recall the price exactly but I paid around 200$ for the headlight and fairing from a HD parts website. Also bought some simple fork mounts off ebay and mounted the light and stock signals on that.

Other mods:

bar end mirrors (motrax-napoleons)
removed rear hugger
reflective wheel stripes
two brothers CF cans
bar snake installed for vibration
painted forks
uncaged frame sliders
painted radiator covers

my advice to anyone: Buell headlight has great light output. If you do the naked conversion take this into consideration. Many streetfighter lights have very poor output (speaking from experience).

GSXR 1000 (2003,04) headlights can be found on eBay all day long but I won't post a link here since in a few days the auction will be over. I bought a brand new headlight for about $140 but the mini-fairing is custom fiberglass.

Color-rite is the paint used here. They have a decent rattle can version of yamaha's deep red metallic. It comes in a base, color, and clear coat. In my experience, this turned out exactly as I hoped it would. Of course the key to any painting project is wetsanding and polish compound. This project's paint cost a little under $100 after shipping.

All brackets for mounting were made with aluminum stock that I purchased at Lowe's. This can be shaped and bent to your hearts desire and your application's need.

Turn Signals can be found here

Whenever you face a problem such as mounting or design (like I did a million times) make yourself go at it from the angle of "it can be done" and ideas will start popping into your head.

Just bought the bike a little over a month ago. Since then I've done: Buell Headlight mod, Fender eliminator, bar end mirrors, 520 chain conversion with +4 rear sprocket, Speedohealer and Top Saddlery seat. I have R6 forks and brakes ready to go on, just waiting on the spacers.

Advice on the headlight and front turn signal swap. Be prepared to improvise. I have some more detailed pics of stuff like the speedo mount and turn signal mount solutions I came up with. Feel free to PM me if you want a closer look. The pics are huge, and these are the only ones I have resized a bit to be more forum friendly.

This is my conversion to FZ6N. I bought the bike two months ago thinking on this conversion...
Now I am waiting for the buell headlight kit that I bought from colebb, but I am too impatient so I installed a cheap headlight for a few days.
I did my self the fender eliminator.
Installed new clear turn signals.
Installed new mirrors.
Installed shogun frame sliders.

2009 FZ6S....(just a week to get the bike naked)

I would like to note that not all this stuff is streetfighter/naked mods.

Ive been building up a list of links where I got most of my parts from in order to setup my bike as I did. I just want to make it easier for people to find toys for the bike instead of searching the internet endlessly. Its getting closer and closer to riding season and people are wanting to setup a new ride.

The two biggest things people are generally looking for are a seat cowl (which is not needed for the conversion, its just cool thats all) and headlight mod.

Short and simple if you want the seat cowl like Wolfman, Wavex, and I. This is where I got mine. On top of that they Paint it too!

Seat Cowl

For the headlight there are various types of headlights. You can get pretty cheap on them such as the Demon headlight or the Cyclops or you can go pretty expensive like Wavex and I did. Now remember the headlight Wavex and I have/had came through a french website. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEAK FRENCH if you want to order from the KMP website.

I have the KMP4 headlight

To contact these guys it quite easy. (KMP dealer over seas)

1. Go to KMP Seller
2. Simply if you got any questions, click the contact member and the left side of the screen that appears and they will be happy to help. These guys are very nice and speak very good English, so dont try using translate phrase sites.

These other websites for other headlight are generally much easier to find then the KMP stuff, eBay seems to carry quite a bit of headlights, but dont always trust them. If you saw my thread about the belly pan, yeah.....

(keep in mind when you buy a headlight from most places, it doesn't come with mounting hardware) ALSO Most headlight or ALL headlights are not PLUG N PLAY

I bought my mounting hardware from eBay for about $45.00 Remember the fz6 43mm forks. (Quote me if I am wrong please.)

The next big thing people want to buy are belly pans, and my gosh, they have a variety of these things now. However, these do come with mounting hardware :)

Your local deal does carry the one I bought for my bike or the over seas method which ever you prefer. ebay has a variety of them. These two sites have bunch too.

Wild Hair Accessories

Bici MotorCycles

I think one of my greatest mods that I have done is the handlebar mod. I currently have drag bars on my bike and this is where I got mine. Great prices for saving money, make sure you check for threads, might have to travel to a different site for threads.

Motorcycle Super Store

Now, something that isnt needed, and not required by law in my state, BLINKERS! When you take apart your fairing you lose blinkers, so you have to do something else, My favorite set of blinkers I have seen are Rizoma blinkers like Wavex's bike. They are quite pricey but I leave that up to you.

PJS parts is a great place to buy Rizoma products and other accessories.
PJ's Parts

There is one other thing I recommend, thanks to Wavex, is mounts for the Speedometer.

Amazon had these
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/7-HANDLEBARS-CLAMP-KIT-Slipstreamer/dp/B000WK8G2C/]Mounting bracket for Speedometer[/ame]

Last but not least, I have Leo Vince Carbon wrapped pipes on my bike (no killers)

I think this a great start on working on the conversion to streetfighter/naked, there's always other mods such as the license plate mod, wheel strips, paint, lever, rear sets, etc. etc. These are not exactly needed, but always do add to the bike.

I really hope this thread helped a lot who are in the process or beginning the process of the conversion.

For everyone who has helped me on my conversion I thank again again :) Krid, Wavex and Garret (who isnt part of this website)

thanks guys

I finally get to post in this thread! LOL!

For my conversion thread, go here: http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/28876-here-we-go.html

I tried to post a bunch of pictures of the process of converting that might help people out, but as I said in the thread, if anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me and ask. I'm here to help (as much as I can).

Here's the bike as it sits right now:

photo31.jpg

photo32.jpg

photo34.jpg

I've still got some tweaks to make, but everything is working perfectly and the mount couldn't be more stable.

I'll also be replacing the stock turn signals (front and back) with Rizomas at some point soon. Just gotta let the bank account recover after the conversion (which, when using the Buell headlight, isn't expensive at all).

Many thanks to a lot of members here for answering my sometimes silly, sometimes DUH, and sometimes just downright stupid questions! This was a HUGE leap of faith for me and you guys made it so easy to just jump right in with both feet.

Special thanks to:

You guys ROCK and I'll consider it an honor to get to ride with any of you someday!

(BTW, I'll update the pictures in this post once riding season gets going and I can get some more "glamorous" shots)

I know that there are other threads and even other posts within this thread about the Buell conversion, but I figured since I did my conversion and I feel my technique was a little different, I might as well post a little detailed write-up.

I was being really lazy, and my wife actually had the camera at the time, so I didn't take any pictures until the end, but I'll do my best to describe the process, and see if I can use any other pictures to explain how I did everything.

The first thing about converting to a naked bike, is to take the fairing off. I have to say a special thanks to bd43 for posting a detailed writeup about doing this here.

After getting the fairing off, you'll need to remove the fairing stay which is bolted on with two bolts. Remove the fairing stay, and you're almost ready to start adding parts, instead of removing them.

There are two brackets on each side of the frame one of which has a fuseholder, and something else on the right side of the bike. Remove these.

Next, you'll want to get your wiring harness. It is hidden behind the headlight so to remove the headlight you'll unscrew these screws which are circled in red.

dp_090413_10-1.jpg

Unclip and take out the wiring harness, and you should have everything you need to start. That is of course, if you bought everything you needed for the Buell conversion.

I bought my Buell parts from Harley Davidson Parts | Harley Parts | Harley Accessories | Harley Davidson Clothing because surdyke.com was out of stock on some of the parts I needed. I'm pretty sure that CCHOUSEKY bought the last of some of the Buell parts I needed. :ban: :D

Buell XB Headlight Y0721.6AC
https://www.surdyke.com/
• Price: $92.80
Buell XB Windscreen M1600.1ACMW
https://www.surdyke.com/
• Price: $59.46
Buell XB Windscreen Mount M0645.1ADA
https://www.surdyke.com/
• Price: $18.84

I bought my mirrors, fork brackets, and speedometer mount from Motorcycle Conversion Headlight Kits.

Just to be a little more specific:

These in the 43mm flavor.

These mirrors.

And this universal speedo mount bracket.

I already had these turn signals, so I reused them.

Now, you could probably save money and fabricate your own speedo mount and maybe even get away with getting a cheaper set of fork brackets or again, fabricate your own. This was not really an option for me because I have limited access to tools (I just have mostly basic hand tools and a dremel and drill), and I'm not extermely confident with making my own brackets and such. For me, I'd rather just take something meant for the same purpose and modify it slightly. Maybe one day when I get an awesome tool set and a full garage...

Now back to the writeup. I'm going to do my best and try to explain the method I use. I could go out and take a picture of my setup without the windscreen on, and you could get a really good idea, but I bent my windscreen bracket a bit to get the screen angled the way I like it, and it makes it a huge PITA to put back on. So, instead, I'll show some pictures of the bracket, and possibly draw a rough picture of the bracket setup I have going on.

Here's a picture of the windscreen bracket attached to the headlight.

photo25.jpg

I used my fork brackets (obviously attached to the forks) near the top of the forks about 2 inches or so down from the top triple to attach the windscreen bracket from earlier with 1/2" thread 1 1/2" long bolts.

As you can see from above, the windscreen bracket goes around the headlights to hold them up. For the speedometer, since there are holes in the windscreen bracket itself, what I did was sandwich the universal speedo bracket in between the headlights and then secured it with nuts attached to the end of the 1 1/2" bolts I was talking about earlier.

Here's another picture of the windscreen bracket with circles around the holes , so you'll know what I'm talking about.

photo25-1.jpg

One more picture just to give you a rough idea of how the universal speedo bracket gets attached. Forgive my rough sketch in paint.

photo25-2.jpg

Obviously my bolts were a little longer to accommodate for the speedo bracket.

I drilled holes in my fork brackets to mount the turn signals, cut the headlight connectors off of the buell headlights, discarded the yamaha headlight connectors, and wired the buell headlight connectors onto the wiring harness.

Then, really all there is is wire everything back up. Connect the wiring harness back (both white harnesses).

For the speedo, you'll need to drill three holes to mount it, and then cut out a pretty big portion for the harness to go through.

Reconnect the headlights, both turn signals, connect the speedo harness. Hide everything back behind the windscreen, and put the windscreen on, and you're pretty much done!

Photo0016.jpg

Photo0017.jpg

With my setup, it leaves plenty of room for adjustment and I think it's a pretty simple process, as long as you plan the whole thing out beforehand, so you'll have an idea of what you're going to do.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

P.S. CCHOUSEKY and bd43, if you don't like me using your pictures, just send me a message and I'll take them down.

It's been over a year since I bought my FZ6, and it's barely been ridden while undergoing a FZ6-FZ6N conversion. I am happy as a kitten in cleavage to have it back as of yesterday. A friend of mine did all of the fabrication, and he did a pretty awesome job. Here's a mod list in addition to almost everything painted black:

Rizoma rearsets
Convertibars
Motovation frame/fork sliders
Tech Spec tank pads
Galfer steel brake lines
(-1,+1) 520 kit
Speedohealer 4
HD V-Rod headlight
LED front signals
CRG HS LS bar end mirrors
FAZR6 FE kit
Hyperpro combi kit
Corbin Seat with removable back rest
Cyclone 886F paging alarm
Fiamm low tone horn
One-off gauge mount
Boneman's hugger cut
3M reflective tape

Just something I thought I'd share...I have never used bar end mirror before and the first thing I noticed is that you have to actually turn your head to see them. This could be good because you can check your blind spot at the same time you check your mirror, but it's bad because a quick dart of the eyes to and from the mirror is not an option. Also having always used a windscreen, I thought I might feel the effects of the wind, but surprisingly it wasn't a big deal.

I want to say thank you to Wavex and Wolfman for being so approachable and so readily willing to share your information. Also, thank you Defyinertia and Seanie (SBN) for inspiring me to go with the V-rod headlight. I've probably looked at pics of your bikes more than you have. And thanks to dozens of FZ6ers out there who have been making me drool with their naked conversions.

I got to put about 100 miles on it today--felt so good. My timing in getting the bike is weird though because I'm going out of town and will have to be without my FZ again til 4/4. Sorry that I only have a few pics, but it's been a crazy two days...packing, working, riding...I also have some build pictures, and I will post all of them when I get back. It's dirty from the ride home, so I'll wash it up and take some nice shots, too.

I've been done (as done as a hard-core mod addict can be, anyway) with my nekkid conversion for about 2 weeks now, but here she is.

My mods are as follows, in no particular order:
Yamaha belly pan
Shogun frame sliders
CRG levers and 2" bar end mirrors (I know, hard to see, but I love the look)
PC Racing oil filter
K&N air filter
Targa FE and F&R turn signals
Scorpion SS exhaust
Corbin seat
Shaved stickers/reflectors
CO adjustment
Ottimoto rearsets
AFAM 15t front sprocket
Techspec gripster tank pads
Progrip grips
FZ1 handlebar
Rumble Concept flasher relay
Streetfighter conversion-headlight from flyncycle
Fly-N-Cycle Motorsports-Motorcycle Parts and Gear Online

Did all the work myself in about a year and really proud of it. She might be close to finished, but probably not :rockon:

Undressed the bike yesterday and added that delicious Burlington Yamaha FZ1 headlight with some Mlabel mirrors. With my dad's help, I fabricated my own fork mounts with some pliable metal straps from home depot instead of cutting up some $50 dollar ones from ebay. Once figured out, wiring was easy. Without that odd-looking fairing, it's a completely different animal. Next step is switching out the handlebars for some black drag bars that just came in.:D

Lastly, THANK YOU forum, especially Wavex and Geoff, for answering my questions and posting all of your helpful tips!
