Just wondering where everyone parks their bikes when they go get something to eat or go to the store.

I'll pretty much park where ever I want, that may just be the last of the Rebel in me or keeping in touch with the Outlaw Biker. but as of now I've never had anyone tell me anything, and thats the way I like it!!!:D

Okay who's the Legal one???

It depends.
At Walmart, Kroger, Target and most places they have huge areas tagged off for Handicap placard parking. It blocks of spaces that are perfect for a bike that cause no problem for the drivers or passengers. I park there.
If I go into town proper I park in a space with enough room for other riders.
If there is somewhere I will be out of the way, and my bike will be safe I park in it.

I try to park close as possible everytime, I feel it's one of the perks for riding a bike. Unless it's clearly a red zone, I'll park in any white, yellow or in the blue zones between the handicapped areas. And my favorite, parking on the sidewalk area alongside the vending machine area at the grocery store. And yes, Wal Mart has a great zoned out area between the handicapped area and the store as Wrightme43 mentioned. But I also found out the hard way, I got tagged at one of the casinos. As you may know from another thread, they placed a sticker on my windscreen which essentially ruined it, costing me $$ to get it replaced. You just can't stick adhesive stickers onto the polished-acrylic plastic windscreen without doing somekind of damage to it. So be very careful trying to remove it. Anyway, most of the casinos around here are pretty good in providing motorcycle parking. Otherwise .......

I always try to get pole position.

In Holland I've never had any problems parking pretty much where I want, as long as it's not in the way. A wide sidewalk or next to a bicycle rack (they have lots in Holland). I think they are pretty used to a parked bicycle being in the way, so a motorbike parked in a discrete spot never bothers anyone (well uptil now anyway).

I park where there is a space. I try not to put in need in the way of people. I wouldn't want someone giving it the key treatment. At work I have found a boiler house out let. It blows warm air on my bike all day, When I turn it on it warms up in very little time at all. The temperature this morning was 4C when I left for work and its getting down again. so Im hoping for a warm bum lol,

I just ride into the Wal-Mart, throw what I need in the saddle bags and then use the self checkout lane. It frees up a parking space for someone else.:D

If there is a normal parking space up close, I will park there. If not, and I can stay out of peoples way, I will park on the sidewalk next to a building. I do this a lot at malls and WalMart. I haven't gotten into trouble yet.

Of course there is. It's been open since 2000 and is right off of exit 95 of I-84. It is sarcastically known as the "Mountain Home Mall".
Sure could use a Lowe's or Home Depot here but I think the town has to grow a lot before they'd put one here.

Yes, they have a lot of bicycles in Holland, but the amount of bicycles on the road in Copenhagen are incredieble. Especially, all the bikes parked at the train station. They stack those bikes ontop of another, rack after rack. I distinctly recalled that you have to be very careful when you are exiting out of a taxi on the right side because of the bike lane. The taxi will park left of the bike lane, so if you aren't careful when you open the door, you may wipe out a bike. Amazing that so many people ride bicycles in a climate that gets pretty damn cold.

Sounds like Amsterdam Central station. My cousin commented on it last time she was over, she couldn't believe it either. I think the reason they use the bike is it is definately the quickest form of transport around the city (if they have bike lanes).
In Holland they grit most cycle paths aswell as the roads.
I don't think we have any members from Denmark, but if we did maybe they could tell us how things work across there.

I'm more of a shade junkie whether legal or not. No matter how far the walk is to the store, work, whatever (as long as I don't have a nagging suspicion that el bike will find a new home in a minivan). My previous bike was a ZR7 and for some reason, too long in direct sunlight = problem starting.

According to the poll so far, it looks like almost 70% of the member have parked illegally in areas that provide close proximities to entrances.
I have not gotten any tickets as of yet, just a warning sticker at one of the casino's. Went to the post office yesterday, and I didn't see any motorcycle parking so I guess the postmaster just left decision up to me, so I rode up onto the sidewalk and parked right up front of the main doors, next to the Fedex box.

I don't generally go into town with my FZ6 but if I do the places I go have a bike rack (for bicycles) on the sidewalk so I back it up against the poll and leave it there. I haven't had any problems. Besides, it saves a place for someone's cage right?
