lowering a bike

i'm new to the forum and the proud owner of my first bike. i would like some insight on lowering the bike about 1-2 inches. is that something i can do or do i need to take it to the shop? thanks for your help. look forward to learning from you guys. david b.

I did the hyperpro lowing spring myself but only the rear and I am still playing with the front forks to make it feel right. I would recommended getting the front and rear together to save the headache, I may go ahead and buy the front springs as well. But even doing just the rear does drop it an inch. The seat shave I am going to do when I work up the courage, as buying a lower seat seems to be hard to find and very expensive.
