They are saying that the closure may result in a 60 mile back up. I don't think so. Yes, it's the busiest highway in the US, but 60 miles?

JetBlue Airways is offering $10 flights between Burbank and LA.

OMG--And we're in the LA area during this carmageddon. Oh well, I hope it fizzles out like the SF Bay Bridge closure, Y2K, etc. Perhaps, the more hype, the more people will call in sick, etc., and it will end up not so bad. But, I'm not laying any bets on anything. The FZ6 fold-back mirrors may come in real, real handy.

I'm hoping all the hype will scare enough people to stay off the freeways this weekend.....yeah, I know, I'm an optimist. :rof:

It's not gonna be as big a deal as they are making it out to be. I live less than a mile from the 405 in the shutdown section on Sunset BLVD one of the major streets that cross the 405. I deal with this project everyday and it is not nearly as bad as they made it out to be when they started it some 6+ months ago The only thing is you have to watch for all the gravel in the road now and be careful of freshly patched and tarred areas. But I wish everyone in LA luck this weekend the a**hats will be out in force this trying to avoid the freeway.

There is also a helicopter company doing helicopter shuttles fron San fernando valley to 3 spots in the downtown area

Carmageddon Day 1
Errands completed while driving cage
1. Picked up breakfast burritos for the GF and myself
2. Filled scuba tank
3. Dropped off Dry Cleaning
4. Picked up Moto oil for oil change
5. stopped at OSH for some chlorine
6. Went to supermarket

I dont think Carmegeddon is slowing me down.

It's even been reported in the news across here

Well as california allows lane splitting, this is a good excuse to get on the bike

Any other city closes an interstate for a weekend, it's local news.

Hell A closes an interstate for a weekend, it's a national news story.

LA isn't the center of the world, but it thinks it is.

In NJ we don't close down major roads we know how to do construction here, just shift the lanes or reduce lanes around the construction while traffic still flows. We have more cars per mile than any other state and can do this no problem. I think they get too much sun in CA.
