It really is a dirt bike

Heck Teeter, that looks just like my driveway..... Around here we call those the "good roads", you should see some of the back roads. Coming over from Dual Sports to street rides I can say that for me personally, she ain't made for dirt. Strip her down quite a bit, mod the suspension and...

Where and What were you doing on 9/11?

I was working in a temporary training assignment in a Federal office building in the direct flight path for arriving aircraft at an international airport.... I will NEVER forget the sight of commercial airplanes being escorted in to land by National Guard piloted F-18 fighter jets as the FAA...

    Soldier down

I get these at work anytime we lose a soldier in a vehicle accident. Some are POV (privately owned vehicle), POM (privately owned motorcycle) and others. All are sad. A 902nd Military Intelligence Group, Fort Meade, Maryland Soldier was killed in a motorcycle accident on 5 September 2008 at...

    I got pinched today...

Couple of comments- Last time I ran, I got caught. It was night time and I had him by about 3/4 mile or more and tucked in behind a building to wait him out. As the lights approached I couldn't resist peeking around the building....bad mistake. Once the smoke cleared from his tires and he...

    Gremlins

Similar story waaaay back in the day. I was home sick so my brother ran the bike to run our trap line (fur trapping). Got way off road and piled it up, walked three miles and called dad. They pulled, pushed, kick started until they were blue in the face. Ended up pushing it until they could get...

    Beware in Florida

Perhaps they are tired of all the out of staters/tourists cruising in on their bikes??? Would work on me.....No way in heck will I consider a visit to Florida on my bike if this bill passes as the evidence standard on reckless operation is "officer judgement" and the bar is WAAAAYYY to low on...

    897 mile weekend

Glad you're ok. Even with the weather it sounds like you had a good trip. I tip my hat to you on the mileage as I did my first single road trip (240 mi) on Sat. and man was my backside sore......Guess it's like most everything else, start out small and work up in increments.

When are you no longer a "noob"?

I'd rather like to think of myself as a newbie the rest of my riding life. Keeps you grounded in reality that upon facing the next obstacle/emergency it doesn't really matter how much saddle time you have, your reaction to THIS incident has to be correct or you pile it up. I'll wear my newbie...

Has my engine buzz gotten worse?

Watching this thread closely...... Mine seems buzzy between 5000-7000. May just be a characteristic of the bike but it sure is annoying having to flex your fingers and shake your wrist every five-ten miles...Takes a LOT of the fun out of riding it.

    Noob vs gravel

Glad it turned out ok for you. I catch myself practicing obstacle avoidance situations on innocuous leaves, dried and flattened roadkills, pothole patches etc....Focusing on the danger is a very tough habit to break but through practice, practice, practice it can be done.

    4000 mile check-up

I just did my 4k service myself yesterday then took it on a 220mi "road test" afterwards (got to make sure you didn't miss anything LOL). No problems, just follow the manual and keep all the wrenches/sockets handy....Even though it may not be included in the manual, check tightness on EVERYTHING...

    unwanted sound appeared after service

Never done it on a bike but I've done the following MANY times on gear drive sets.... 1. Coat the gear teeth with some thick lithium grease (lithium because it's white and shows up visually very well) and slowly roll the rear tire until the gear set makes a complete revolution. 2. Examine...
