I'm curious as to how often everyone changes their oil on their FZ6's. Post up, and include what oil type you use, as in standard or synthetic, and maybe the kind of riding you do, ie, track, commuting, freeway, easy going, beat the heck out of it, etc.

I cant fill out your poll, cause i change my oil more often than any off your mileage options....i change my oil every 3000km's - 4500km's at the very most...

Result, i have a 50000km old FZ6 engine that runs likea swiss watch, on high quality, very clean, fully synthetic oil...

I use synthetic (Ropella) and it is good for 10,000+ miles. My riding is mostly commuting (usually around 4-5000 rpms) with some highway sprinkled in. One of the advantages of syntethic is that it doesn't break-down after 3000-5000 miles like the regular stuff.

Depends on the year, I may change it at 3000, or if it's a year I just can't get much bike time in then I will just change it in the fall before I put her away for the season of -20f

My riding season is short and on average only put on 7500 km per year. So I change mine after the last ride of the year before the battery is pullled it's tucked in under the covers and then halfway through the ride season, so maybe every 3500 to 4000 km.

She still runs like a top!

I know Rotella is made mainly for fleet vehicles but when used in a motorcycle it still should be changed at Yamaha's recommended intervals. Trailer trucks will run all day every day and therefore get very little water in the oil due to condensation. Also trucks and farm tractors will run all day at a fairly constant rpm and usually same load and temperature. Fleet and farm vehicles will also have oil filter systems that are good for 10000 miles also.

I'm actually going to change my oil today, as it is too wet to ride:(.
Although I don't quite have 3000 miles on it yet, my grand plan is to change it somewhere between 2 and 3k. It's not my primary transportation, so excessively frequent oil changes aren't gonna break the bank.
Also, I went with the dealer's recommendation and am using Yamalube 10-40 semi-synthetic.

I change mine every 1500-2000 miles. I put a lot of wear and tear on the bike riding almost year round, plus I commute almost 75 miles a day. I can definitely feel a difference in the bikes attitude as the oil reaches 2000 miles. I've been using Amsoil since I bought the bike used with 9000 miles on it, its got about 38000 now.

I change my oil every 4-5000 kms and I always change the oil filter at every oil change. May go a bit longer now that I've changed to synthetic oil.(5-6000 kms).

Yeah, I meant to put an option for "Under 3000 miles" or something similar, but botched it. lol

Interesting info here, looks like most people go no more than 3K miles, even on synthetic.

Every 5000km riding to & from work mostly. FZ6 rarely gets a good flogging these days.
My race bike oil is changed after every outing.

Whether the oil looks like it needs changing or not I always dump it & refill with
Motul 5100 semi synthetic in both bikes.

I do it every 4,000 miles with regular ole 20w50 yamalube drum oil. It is what the owner's manual recommends so it is what I do. "So shall it be written......."

I change mine at 4500-5000 km with semi-synthetic 15-50 in summer and 10-40 in the winter,(motul 5100).

I tried many other brands (yamalube, agip, castrol, valvoline) but I think this one is the best value for money. Every 2 oil changes, 1 oil filter (or when I change oil viscosity).

Result: I'm on 100.000km and the engine runs like a clock!
