    Help specialist needed

Hi Guys, Have a virtual pint on me, I usually keep quiet on here as I am more of a ghost but in this case I need your help, I recently done the r1 shock conversion with the preload adjuster, sent away to a suspension specialist to have it revalved to my spec 11 stone!, once fitted well just say it was a bit of a pogo stick, sent it back for another revalve and I get the idea he does not want to do it again ,although he did say he does not have the specs!
Is there anybody on here that has had the revalve done in the UK or Spain for that matter as I would rather give it to somebody with more experience on this modification .
    Kindest Regards Derrickmonkey

    Re: Help specialist needed

I can't help with the specialist but you are now armed with enough information to likely get it right.
There are two shim stacks in that shock and its sounds like the shop did the opposite of what was needed and made the shims more pliable thus losing damping control.

You did screw both comp and rebound all the way in to find that neither offered control of the spring??

Rebound: with compression screwed all the way out and rebound 1 click out you should be able to compress the spring (jump on seat) and the tail should just creep up real slow like.

Screw the rebound out all the way, screw the comp in all the way. A quick bounce on the seat should feel like you hit a wall as it should not compress. What happens when you do these two tests?

So, you have the OEM valving shim stack and the new changes to the shim stack. Based on what didn't work the builder should be able to get it pretty damn close.

Of course fresh oil and the proper nitrogen charge will play a role too. IIRC builder on mine used something slightly heavier for oil (no more than 2.5 to 5wt) and set the static pressure higher too to reduce aeration.

I wish knew the formula for the shim stack as I would share it.
One question, did you ever install the shock and try it with just the FZ6 spring? Some find it usable as is, I did not.

    Good luck.

Cheers for your reply,I used to have a 5 JJ and set up the bike but both of the adjusters on the fz have little effect, I did not try it with the fz spring only.I thought I was doing the right thing getting it revalve as I don't like wasting time but it seems to have backfired....DM
