Re: Mody design battery
What's/who's browningbuck?
If you can't fix it by hitting it with a hammer, it's electrical!

Re: Mody design battery
There's a guy who is a member at my wrenching club that builds his own batteries out of laptop lithium cells. Wonder if it's the same guy.
He claims it's way cheaper than buying a Shorai, but it can't be enough cheaper to be worth the PITA. $150 for a battery every few years is so much cheaper than tires that it doesn't even matter.

Re: Mody design battery
That is dangerous! Not the same lithium technology..... Remember that current requirement during starter draw far exceed that of most any consumer electronics that use lithium-ion technology as compared to lithium-iron technology that Shorai and other manufacturers use for automotive application.
Face-Off: Lithium Ion vs Lithium Iron Battery
Safety is the first concern for any battery being used in portable devices. It should not get overheated or catch fire in case of overcharging. The Lithium-iron battery has edge over the Li-ion battery in such situations. It has superior chemical and thermal stability. A Lithium-iron battery remains cool at room temperature while the Li-ion may suffer thermal runaway and heats up faster under similar charging conditions. LiFePO4 is a nontoxic material, but LiCoO2 is hazardous in nature, so is not considered a safe material. Lithium cobalt dioxide is an allergen to eyes and skin. It could cause a major harm if swallowed. Disposal of Li-ion battery is a big concern for the manufacturer and user.Last edited by Motogiro; 07-13-2017 at 04:39 PM.
